Anybody out there have a barn or shed that is a RED metal building? Tony's fixin' to have a building built at the farm because he's buying a tractor. We want RED metal (I'd rather have a wood barn, but the pasture fire we had last year scared us a little) but we have heard that the RED oxidizes after a few years and starts lookin' chalky. One manufacturer told him that their red doesn't fade, but all the other ones have only a 3-5 year guarantee.Does anyone have any personal experience with this??? I'd love to hear --- if it fades, we'd do another color, but we'd really like red. I hate to have some ole ugly color shed out on my farm, but oh well.... maybe a light yellowish with dark green roof? I just don't know...
I have to go to the farm this afternoon. We had some strong thunderstorms move through last night and possibly more this evening and my corn is FLAT on the ground. I have to go stand it back up. We've had to do this in the past and it usually works okay. Thank goodness I don't have a whole pasture of it! Tony was out there last night during the storm and he said there were limbs on the ground and some of the other garden plants look a little battered. But, hey, that just goes with it I guess. I shan't fret.
I will be making pickles tonight. Stay tuned because I'm going to do a tutorial and take you through the process. Once, again, it's Mamaw's recipe and man is it great! I'm so glad I learned some stuff from my grandmothers before they were gone!
Lemme know about thuh rayed color thang, ya'll!

Blogger has caused me to use period or dashes in interesting ways.
.
For sure.

I seem to get more opportunities to use them than not lately. I wonder what causes that?
My landlord and my husband heard similar things about the dark green but we went with it anyway and it has been fine for over seven years, except for the bird spots and the pollen collection it never changes color. You should find out if the installer or manufacturer can tell you other people in your area who have used the red metal and go see their buildings.
Good luck.
You could either ask the manufacturer for refrences on the red or take a shot and if it fades too much paint it. Or you could go with yellow to match the house. You know how I love yellow! :)
Ok Vickie, I know where you are coming from on this. Texas women like red just like they have big hair and ALWAYS wear make-up. It is what we do. Our big Ford F150 had to be fire-engine red, which proves you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl.
We are always attracted to red barns when we are shooting pictures of barns. It seems that none of the new ones are red. In Kentucky, we noticed the popular color was black! Green and tan are popular here in Illinois. I still like red!
WE have some red metal roofs over our dove and duck pens, but they are not too old. I have seen older metal change color too, but I agree with Lanny and Tina, check with the manufacturer about that. So worth getting the color you want if you can. Plus, there are all these fancy paints that paint metal too, and the quality of the paint is getting better and better.
I have had a lot of trouble with blogger not only NOT allowing me to space words, etc,. but it has completely changed my writing size, italics, etc., and I end up just publishing after the frustration of trying to correct it. One of my recently previous posts published in tiny writing I did not choose....but, as someone else said, Blogger is free, and offers so much , I don't dwell on the frustrations and am thank-ful to be able to read YOU!
Ours is red painted metal. we painted about 2 years ago. It still looks good.

Ooooh I can't wait to hear about the pickles!
Our barn had the red metal, and after 5 years, still looks just as good... I'm not sure about the difference in the non-warranty metal and the other, but ours is the cheapest kind they had and is holding up great!
Me again- I have some pictures on my blog of ours if you want to see it- or I can email you some if you like!
I don't have the answer about the red fading...I just know I love red barns! I can't wait to see your pickle recipe. My cucumbers are just now starting to be ready. By the way...I would never tire of hearing about your garden...that's what I love!
You know, I can't help you on the color question. I just know that whenever we drive across the countryside, a red barn always catches our eye! So country pretty! Love to hear about the pickles. blessings,Kathleen
Well, if they didn't know you were from Texas they are fixin to know. haha And, yes, blogger doesn't always allow me to space like I want either. Blasted blogger.
