Here's a fall picture of our pond. The leaves are getting in full swing here, but there's still a couple of weeks til they peak. Usually around my birthday is when they're at their best providing there doesn't come a huge storm and blow all the leaves off.
Another random picture: G.E.R.A.R.D B.U.T.L.E.R. If you haven't seen him in "P.S. I love you", the movie, you don't know what you're missing. Love that Scottish accent. He actually plays an Irish man in the movie, but he is SOOOO dreamy. Love it!
Ok, whew, enough of that...
Love it! Love it!
Ok, here's the little mini-horses across the road from my parents house. They are so cute. I tried to get a close-up picture of them last fall cuz they had frost on their fuzzy coats, but they kept turning & looking at me and wouldn't be still. I wanted it back-lit so the frost would stand out. This was the best one I got. I'll try again maybe...Since we just passed Halloween and the Mexican holidays Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, thought I'd show you a couple of shrines to the dead loves ones that I took at Mi Tierra Mexican Restaurante (mi restaurante favorito de todo el mundo!) in San Antonio a couple of years ago. To the Mexican culture the way I understand, death is a part of life, and on November 1 & 2, they honor their beloved dead relatives by creating shrines to them in the cemeteries and elsewhere. They shower them with decorations, flowers, music, photographs and favorite foods. Sometimes they will stay at the gravesite and wait for their spirits to come and it is comforting to them, not scarey. The Mexican bakeries are full of the sugar skeletons and skulls and all kinds of goodies which they add to their shrines, too. Anyway, here's a couple of shots to honor some departed souls in San Antone.
And THAT, my friends is about all I can think of this day and may you find something of a tiny bit of interest here just to prove that I am, in fact, still alive and kicking (struggling), and have not gone MIA in bloglandia.
I've been quite busy with work, kids, getting ready for company, and a church fellowship at the farm, and gophers. I"m trying desperately to git rid of some mounds before the fellowship, but I may be fightin' a losin' battle. You don't want to see a photo of one of the dead gophers that I have.
I think I'm going to start a "GOPHER COUNTER" on my sidebar and keep count. I think, to date, it's 8 or 9, but I really need a counter so I can keep up - I like statistics (not really). Monday I caught 2, yesterday I caught one. If you need any help learning how to catch gophers, find their burrows, set the traps, and how to dispose of said varmint if not already dead, I'm thinking of having an online tutorial called "Gettin' Gophers 101" and will have it on my side-bar for you to click and download for $19.95 and that comes with a $5.95 certified galvanized homogenized plagiarized gopher trap that's guaranteed to catch gophers for you or double your money back (if returned within 10 days of purchase). Think it'll sell?
PETA will probably come after me...

OHHH i have to laugh at you!I would hate to aee if you had nothing lolbecause that was good. I love the pond. I wanna picnic by it.
My daughterinlaw is Spanish and she never mentioned this. The have nothing here in our area, but I read another blog that did. Maybe it is Mexico and out in Texas.
I love some Spanish pastries. When I went to Houston there is an amazing place and it is cheap. We bring back boxes. Now you have me wanting Mexican =)
Ola, muchacha! Your pond is muy bonita. Ok! No mas'.No more Spanish. I don't know mucho any way. Those little horses are so cute. More like 'horsettes'. I really would like to have one, but you know, living in town and all.
Girl; you and your gophers! Peta will be after you. Fire off a couple rounds over their heads and warn em' off. Vamanos! Well it's good to hear from you.
Adios, Debbie
The shrine to the dead, I've seen those before somewhere, but I am not sure where. I didn't know that was what they were! Ha!
Love the miniature horses and the pond.
So, how many gophers are you up to? I hope they hibernate some time soon...and for your sake...verrrry far away! :)
I'm cracking up. I think the dead gopher counter is halarious. If you put it out there, we will be watching. You could sell "Gettin Gophers 101" on Ebay or Etsy, I smell a winner. And to think you thought you didn't have anything to say.
I have enjoyed your blog. The picture you have at the top is beautiful (and your pond is lovely too)!
I could use that online gopher tutorial, we aren't doing so well at getting rid of the gophers that are tearing up our front lawn. I wish there was another way, but it looks like trapping is the only solution.
You are a hoot! I haven't been blogging much since my school year started. My brain is like "mush" every night. For some reason I can't seem to get to sleep tonight, so thought I would try to catch up on some blogging! I have just about lost all my followers. I just can't seem to find the spare time to blog! Hate that too, because I love it! OK, enough of that. Well, just wanted to say Howdy from Texas.
Hugs.
P.S. I noticed you are bloggy friends with Debbie from Attracted to Shiny Things. She is a hoot too.
Well, hoothootpatoot!!! Yeah, I think it'll sell! Seriously, have you tried calling your county extension agent? We trapped 23 coyotes a few years back when they were eating our precious little pets. Beeeeeautiful lake on your acreage!
Ha ha! Right after I blogged about the moles ruining our place my husband got 2 in his traps...there must still be a thousand left though.
The picture of the autumn color with your pond in the background is beautiful and worthy of framing. Glad you're still alive and blogging Vickie!
We live in north Texas and the first freeze of the year is usually on my birthday in November. Pretty pond.
Hey, Carla - I can't get on your blog to comment. Thanks for your visit. If you want me to come visit you, you'll have to let me know! Thanks - Vickie
Well, you sure can come up with a lot of stuff to post, even if your brain is turned to mush! You must turn out Pulitzer Prize winning stuff on non-mush days. ;-)
Interesting photos of the Shrines for the Dead.
Animals just don't want to seem to cooperate for pictures. They're always more interested in what YOU are doing, so have to check you out while you're trying to check them out and get a good pic.
Pretty good for nothing! I use to raise miniature horses, could not run ours away with a stick.
Love the photo of the pond.... Maybe you could do a painting of it? It would be beautiful!
Know what you mean about gophers, although here it is moles. They are so nasty, leaving tunnels and holes everywhere and eating my root crops! Its a wonder we harvested as many sweet potatoes as we did. I have tried the "mole windmills" but not much luck. I just might be your first customer and buy the book and trap :)
I kind of like that fancy cemetery stuff! Not so gloomy and depressing!lol Well, I don't know if we have gophers here in Arkansas--we do have chipmunks who will chew up the wires under your car hood and to your central air conditioning unit! Drat those rascals! My husband wants to take care of them for sure! V.
I'll be your huckleberry. Well, if I could only get to Texas, I'd kill those durn golphers for you, me and my vermit killin' posse.
I know what ya mean by the storm blowing all the leaves off before you're done lookin' at 'em. We're having our leaf wipin' storm right now! But it is fun to listen to.
Speaking of P.S.s, my posse also does birds. Road Trip!
Vickie - love the gopher count and lovely picture of those charming lil rodents! PETA be danged - I'm eating meat and killing varmints when I need to. Has been an interesting fall - first unusual rain and now unusual warm - I'm lovin it!
Wow, when you don't have much to blog about you have the most wonderful things! Just love it. Blessings,Kathleen
Wow! Very interesting (and random) post here Vickie! *LOL*
Sorry you're still at war with the gophers... hang in there! Loved seeing the scenery pictures and the cute little animals! (NOT the dead gopher on your sidebar... those teeth! YIKES!)
Holey, moley! I just caught sight of that gopher! I don't think I've ever actually seen one. Wow! Ugggggly! C
Yes Stickhorse C, you ought to see one mad I pulled out of his hole and he's trying to bite through my leather gloves with those big ugly choppers! Ay-ay-aaayyy!
Love the miniature horses and the pond. Work from home India
