Are you great at giving speeches and getting up in front of a classroom or a group of people to speak publicly. NOT ME. Not my daughter either. We totally freak out! Speaking before other people gives us a reason to call in sick, to feign incurable illnesses, to stay in bed with the covers over our heads, suffer from insomnia, to have diarrhea, a nervous stomach, to throw up occasionally, to walk through life with glazed over eyes in a zombie-like state. It's SO scary. My husband has no problems with it at all, nor my sons. Unfortunately, my daughter is like me in this respect. This post is about her - kind of a special request.
She had a speech to do Monday morning at 9 in her college classroom. She fretted, walked the floor, wrung her hands, pulled wads of hair out of her head (not really), called me 2,017 times over the weekend, wrote and re-wrote, prepared her Power Point presentation and took pictures of herself in her demented state. The following are some of those---- Caution - you are now entering the No-Spin Zone! Images are not for the fainthearted...
One can plainly see the progression of the downward spiral of insanity of the mind that has taken over this young woman's psyche. Recovery is slim at best. Only after the speech is given and the appropriate visual aids have been dispensed to her audience will sanity once again return to said female subject. Then, heart rate will return to normal as well as eating/digestion processes. UNTIL the next time....
Her brother Josh was so helpful in cheering her up and encouraging her. He sent her this stupid video from You-Tube, and told her not to worry about cuz people wouldn't be listening anyway. Thanks Josh. You can start this video if you want, but it's too long, and you'll only want to watch about may 8-10 seconds of it. It'll make your day and make you glad you have dogs instead of teenagers. Actually, it did remind me a little of my daughter when she was much younger.... glad she outgrew that!
Now, on to other matters.
One of my neighbor's cows got out sometime yesterday and ran amock through my garden and all around the house. Do you know what a several hundred lb cow can do to a garden? Do you know how deeply their hooves can sink into the soft damp sand (it rained a little Sunday)? Do you know what those heavy feet can do to a poor onion? I followed the hoofprints all around the house and out the back of our place yesterday afternoon. Tried to straighten the poor onions up and tamp down the dirt around them. Thank goodness that was about it. There were no prints in my tomatos or peas. Dumb cow. Sorry I didnt have my camera with me. I know you're so sad you don't get to see hoofprints in my garden.
Well, better run - husband will be here to eat lunch with me any minute. Oh yeah, I'm getting to see my nephew this evening (and my sister). He's been in the Navy for the past 18 months or so, and for the last 9 months he's been in the Persian Gulf and all around the world. I'm looking forward to seeing him. He left a 6'3" beanpole and is coming home the Incredible Hulk! I'll have pictures!!!! See ya!

What have they been feeding that nephew of yours in the Navy? :D
Yes, the fear of public speaking is still number one on most lists. That means that we'd prefer death. Ha!
I taught public speaking for a few years. Some of my poor students were such wrecks. Hope that your daughter did just fine!
I hate to speak in public. The minister asked me to read the service for a month. I told her that I would. I got thru it ok. I suppose it helped me.
OOOoooo your poor garden. Next time you will have to have a beef brisket roast!!
Have a wonderful day.
I've always been a shy person but 3 years being on the Debate team in high school (do they still do that?) and taking speech classes in college cured me....as long as I know what I'm talking about..my dad pushed me alot in that area..he said you should always face your fears...hard but true...
I feel for your daughter and having to do a speech. I get stage fright and would rather eat worms than speak in front of a room full of people. I hope she did good.
Dang that cow. I'm glad he didn't tromp anything other than onions.
Have a good one...
Ok, I would love your daughter but does she have to look beautiful even with her face in full cry mode? Really! Some people!
LOL
Bless her heart, she'll be fine. My first public speaking assignment ended up in the entire class including the teacher...and me...doubled over in laughter because of my sad hand motions. Today, it is absolutely natural for me to speak in front of groups. There is no other way to get used to it but to do it.
Hugs to that sweet girl of yours.
As for the cow...Harrumph!
I totally LOVE steak!
Becky K.
Those pictures!!! Bless her heart.
Will you hug your nephew for us, tell him we have a son "over there" too, and tell him we appreciate his service to his and our country.
oh dear! i feel badly for your daughter
and her speech anxiety, but i am in
anguish over your poor garden!
i've seen pictures of the perfectly
straight rows that you worked so
hard at!
the video is hilarious.
Poor sweet daughter...I can relate and my college age daughters did the same thing over many situations too!
Sorry about the cow...they do ruin everything fast! Have a wonderful visit this evening...I love times like that. Come say hi :D
sorry about your garden...not crazy about public speaking either...felt the same way as your daughter when I was young...now it's not so bad...enjoy your nephew...
I have to say I would be quite unhappy about the cow situation. I do agree with the other comment...your daughter does look gorgeous, even if she is supposed to be distraught.
Well, yes, we are disappointed about not seeing the cow tracks...I bet the speech went just fine. I can remember being uptight about public speaking, but it's part of my every-day life now! c
I am with you and your daughter on the public speaking! I have told Debbie, who is apparently a speaker extraordinaire, that I considered Toastmasters just to try to overcome this FEAR. But, I can't work myelf up to go! LOL!
I hate the cows got into your garden, but glad she only crushed onions.
Enjoyed the post!!!
So how did the speech turn out? I can totally understand, I do not like public speaking and freak out too, although not to the extent the video portrayed. The guy in the video sounded like a cow in extreme labor pains....hope he learns to control this~
Yes, I can sympathize with you in the destruction of your garden via livestock, maybe an upside would be a gopher hole got tromped!
Your daughter is beautiful, even in a state of panic. I hope her presentation went well...I bet it did!
Good the cow only trampled onions...We probably wouldn't like to see a picture of you after you saw what happened in your garden..
Thanks to your nephew for serving our country.
Cute post!!!
I don't know if I could recover after finding a cow had trampled through my yard! One the brighter side, it could leave fertilizer in it's wake!
Looking forward to pics of the globe traveling Incredible Hunk! Yes, I mean HUNK. ,-)
^_^
.
Hi Vickie!
It was so good to hear from you the other day on my blog - you always give me a boost!
I can sympathize with your daughter! I hate to speak in public! So glad I don't get all of those awful symptoms though ;O) Her pictures were adorable!
So sorry about the cow - I can sympathize with that one too! It's even worse when it's your own cow, and it weighs more than a few hundred pounds - more like a few thousand, cuz it's a bull!! Yikes!!
Have a wonderful visit with your family!
Hugs,
Barb
I used to be really bad about public speaking but I've gotten better over time. Now I can talk about most anything.
I know about those hoofprints. The neighbors cows (over a dozen of them) used to escape and run amuck on my place. Worse than their hoof prints are those cow pies. I hate those things.
I've never been afraid to get up and even make stupid remarks, much less speeches! :) Toastmasters was a wonderful experience for me and helped me with a LOT of things, not just public speaking.
Hope the speech went well. Bless her heart.
I hope those weren't your boys! I was just glad the boy didn't tear the room up and punch holes in the sheetrock, like in some of our rent houses. That was quite a spectacle!
And you were certainly fortunate that you didn't have more damage to your garden by the cow! What a surprise to find that scene out at the farm!
I mowed quite a bit today, and still have a few hours to do Thursday. Wish I could have come your way this week like I wanted to, but there's just too much to do keeping up with three yards now that the grass and weeds are growing.
Talk to you soon, Chickie! :)
Your daughter is lovely even in a freaked out state! Hope her speech went well! Congrats on coming out ahead in the rodent captures for the month of March!!! 4! Wow. Nice. =)
I don't even want to know what the boy in the video had in mind for the remote control! He needs professional help... seriously.
Cute pictures of your daughter!
When I first went to college right out of high school I avoided math, science AND speech class!! A couple of years ago I went back and took speech and made an "A"! It was much easier being older than most of the students! My youngest daughter was taking speech that semester too, and she said her voice trembled so much she could hardly get through it! My niece had her doctor prescribe a couple of Elavil pills so she could make a speech in front of people!
Your girl is darling--hope you'll let us know how it went!
Hate, hate, hate speaking in public!
