Meanwhile, back at the farm..
Just a few shots of what's going on at the Farm. They're not in any certain order. I just haven't had much time for blogging lately. But I thought this might be a little bit entertaining - at least it was for me! Garden's going good so far... cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, purple hull peas, green beans, onion, cukes, watermelon, cantaloupe, a little corn, some dill for my pickles, cilantro for hotsauce, all kinds of peppers, squash & zucchini.
Into the sun view - don't look at the weeds...
Here's the side of my little tin garage with the rusty roof. I did this flower bed last year and my son made me a flower box and covered it with this old shutter. Neat, huh? Planted dianthus here last fall, and they came back beautifully as did my roses. I added some lilies of different colors, but they haven't bloomed yet. I also added some blue salvia and I think I'm going to add some more - I love that stuff! Found these old fence pieces at a garage sale for $2 apiece.
Can you see my little mini-gardener perched on this piece of fence? He likes it here very much - I see him quite often!
Here's a better shot of my salvia and my rock edging. Eventually I'm going to collect enough rocks to do all my flower beds. Looks more old-timey, and I'm all about old-timey, rusty, chippy, and broken-down!
Another view of the back of the house. Oh yeah - red potatoes - I forgot to add them to my list.
I'm really proud of this flower bed of roses. It was the first one I did at the farm. I've been learning as I go. Tony and I attacked this one and did it. It has pink and red roses, snapdragons, zinnias, verbena, a crepe myrtle, and a vesuvius plum - the dark purple. Gotta find me some more rocks...
Ok, I'm having trouble moving these pictures in the order that I wanted so you're gonna have to bear with me here. Sorry.
Now - look at this old iron crib. I got it for a steal at a garage sale. I thought my husband was gonna have a fit when I got him to go with me to pick it up. "WHAT DO YOU WANT THIS OLD PIECE OF JUNK FOR?" Well, I don't know yet, but I just couldn't pass it up. So I'm asking YOU guys - what do you think I should do with it? Make a flower bed in it - maybe roses or something? Maybe let some viney flowers grown on the end pieces? The one side piece comes off, and I thought maybe I could hang that up or put it in a flower garden somewhere and put clematis or something on it. GOT ANY GOOD IDEAS???
Oh, and what's THIS I see on my tomato vines? Ah-HA! Little tomatoes! Oh I can't wait til tomato season!!!! A tomato and onion sandwich with mayo (maybe throw in a couple of slices of bacon - that's called "baconizing", people). YUMM-O!!!
Ok, see I couldn't get this one to go where it should have. Just another pic of my roses...
The bluebirds would NOT come to the door of their house when I wanted a picture. This house has been up for nearly 4 years now, and this year is the first year for bluebirds to nest in it! We have tons of bluebirds out here on the farm, those and also scissortails - you can always hear them fussing.
Lookie here - can anyone tell me what's been chompin' on my cabbage and what I can do to get rid of the chomper? I'll fightcha for my cabbage. Daddy says we gotta let nature have a little, bitty portion of our harvest, gotta share a little, but looks like nature could limit their chomping to just ONE of the cabbages and not all of 'em. Greedy little boogers.
Now on to other matters. My guys are leaving today for a fishing trip to the White River in Arkansas. They are looking forward to it and I hope they have good weather, and no tornadic activity! Adam, my oldest, will go on back to Nashville, so that leaves me a sad mom today. I told him he better not wait for 5 months to come back home again. I know he's been super busy song writing and on the road playing, but that's just too long. We had a trip planned to go up there, but that was when MIL fell and broke her hip. (by the way, she's doing well, but now she's having a problem with "drop foot". I'm taking her to the Dr. on Tuesday - bet she's got some nerve damage or something...) I will be enjoying having some time off to do what I want - either go see family or spend time with friends, etc. YEA! Princess will be home, too, so I'm sure we'll find something to get into! We always do!
Have a wonderful weekend, friends. Sorry I'm brain dead and can't blog about something worthwhile of your time. So many of you have such wonderful well-thought posts about politics or current affairs or religion or such, and I wish I could do that. But I can't today. Take care of yourselves and know that I'm thinking of you "con mucho carino" (I can't get the tilde thingie to work) Bye!

Well I like what you do just fine. Love your gardens...they look fine and healthy. We won't discuss that poor little cabbage. I hope it made something awful sick. Your hubby had to ask what you wanted that old bed for? Oh my! He really doesn't know you very well. I can see it as a flower bed of some sort. What about all white flowers mimicking sheets? Blue salvia? I've never heard of it. Is that what's growing in your window box? Yes, very cute idea with the shutter! So much to talk about on this post...
Love the bed!!! Everything is beautiful. Wish you could help me out.
You place is looking beautiful! I t gives me inspiration that I can get our old place in shape one day!
Woweeee! I can't believe your garden! We seriously have not even been able to put out our tomatoes! Your flower beds are beautiful - I love the roses and the little rusty fence - adorable.
I have always been told to keep a row of weeds for the critters, but I'm not sure if it works to keep them off cabbage!
Love, love the old crib! Whatever you do with it will be great, I can't wait to see it when you are done. I do like the idea of vines growing up the side though. Thanks for sharing - it's beautiful!
I will be keeping you and your MIL in my prayers. My mother fell down last night and cut her head and really bunged up her arm, no stitches just very sore - we just love them and worry about them so much, don't we? They took such good care of us, the least we can do is help them when they need it!
Hugs,
Barb
I think the pieces of that bed will be great for backdrops and climbing plants. You done good! My husband knows better than to ask; sometimes I wish he would! Have fun with your time;D

Ohhh,,everything looks so pretty! Have you ever made rose petal jelly? It's delicious and a nice gift. That crib is begging to be the fence around a pretty little flower bed. Maybe cut off the legs! Yikes. It could also be a vine paradise.
link to rose petal jelly.

I wish I could make links look pretty but it'll get you there!
Your garden and flower beds are spectacular! I just love the flower box with the shutter and the flower bed under neath! What a great find with the fence pieces!
I think the iron bed would be neat made into an outdoor bench/bed with outdoor fabrics! (I'm sure the bed would need reinforcing) Set it under a tree and what a great place for reading and napping! It is a beauty!
Thanks for showing us around the Farm! It all looks great!
Blessings!
What a beautiful place. Nothing worthwhile to blog about? You are kidding, right? Love the green, the flowers, the artistic touches.
Enjoy yourself. Will pray for your MIL and for good fishing weather.
Your garden and yard look great, things are growing fast.
My idea for the bed is a seat for the yard, insert weather proof cushions and put under a shade tree, the removable piece will make a great trellis.
Ilove your posts! And I love the garden and the flowers...we got a ton of hail today...Spring hasn't even come here yet! And look at your beautiful yard! Love the bed...I'd fill it with boxed flowers...:D
Oh, you need to get rid of that old crib; call me, I'll haul it off for you! ;-)
If you can find it, get some Evolution Muhly Sage, the spikes stay vibrant forever! Bright blue, almost purple.
Your garden is growing gangbusters! I am so impressed with how the flowerbeds by the tin roofed building are looking and my goodness Vickie, you don't need to apologize for anything regarding blogging!
It is good you have had time with your son and he with his father. Who cleans and cooks the fish they catch?
I am happy to hear your MIL is doing much better.
We haven't had any mole activity lately, I think they are reproducing like crazy to then embark on an all out attack on our place, how are the underground varmints behaving at your place?
Now THAT is a garden - I've long since given up on a big country garden - DH does NOT enjoy any part of gardening and it becomes too much for me really quickly. No help but I never could get cabbages or even broccoli to grow without an all out attack from those hole eating whatevers! My tiny peach tree is losing leaves to some kind of caterpillar. Your flower beds are gorgeous! what fun to visit with you today - all it lacked was a nice glass of sweet tea - have fun with the Princess and be ready to wash a LOT of dirty man clothes when they come back from their fishing adventure.
Hey, this was a great blog topic and your pictures are wonderful....Your flowers and your vegetable garden are so pretty. Your Sand Flat Farm looks like a piece of heaven to me....
The crib was a great buy..... I think it would look good as a back drop with vines growing on it, and flowers growing in and around it.
Have a wonderful weekend sweet friend!!!
No problem! Who doesn't love to see pics of what goes on "around-the-blogger"? I do. Inside or out.
Gentle hugs...
Oh I feel like I'm there!! Lovely post and pics!

What a beautiful tour of your place. It's all so lovely. Love the little green frog "gardener".
Chickie,
Go down to your local Tractor Supply and grab a real stinky bottle of deer and rabbit repellant. It also keeps away the insects. It's an organic mixture which will not affect the plant but keeps away bugs and pests. It stinks, but the smell eventually dissipates. You might check the label about putting it on veggies, though. BTW, that garden looks spectacular!!!
Looks like this country blog has plenty of faithful readers. I wouldn't worry about the content; I think you're doing good!!! You certainly helped me get going on my blog, and I'll forever be appreciative.
Well, I love ya, Chickie... Have a blessed day!
I think gardens are worthwhile and important! I can't do much about the world, but I can grow food!!
So, thank you for your garden pictures, and I especially loved the shot of the little frog. :)
what lovely gardens you have!
i love your idea about the old
bed, vines, tall flowers, etc.
should be lovely.
hurry! and then take a picture.
Vickie, your garden and flower beds are just wonderful!! Everything looks so good! Hope you get the little cabbage-eater under control! The frog is sooooo cute. So many fun things to see! I like what you have to say. =)

Cheryl
No need to apologize for a beautiful blog post. I think we are all too busy to blog these days. Spring adds many chores to our lists, and you have other things going on as well.
Your garden looks fantastic.
I, too, love the flower box with the blue shutter. Smart, pretty, and fun!
Hi Vicki, I was wondering about your son and if he was in Nashville during the terrible flooding. Love all of your beautiful garden pictures! Did you get some of that rain I sent your way??? LOL. blessings,Kathleen
It all looks lovely. Let me think on that crib idea. Good buy though, you go girl.
And tell princess, high 5 on the fishing below.
Margo
Hi Vickie, you are making such progress on your farm. It looks lovely! I am recouping from running all over western PA :) It was very refreshing, really, but now have to play catch-up in my flower beds and gardens! LOL
What do you use on your cabbage plants to keep worms away?
I *love* the bed. My first thought was for a flower bed, but I like the idea of using it as a sitting piece under a tree and using the odd piece for a trellis. Your flowers are gorgeous.
My garden hat is off to you dear lady! WhooHoOoo! I've just been skippin down the neat n tidy rows of your garden. Your vintage garden pieces from the yard sale are FAB. But that baby bed.............
I'm DROOLING. Get out the spray can girl! Go for it! YES to anything you grow in it. YES YES YES! LOL
HAVE FUN
Happy gardening....
Lea
