Howdy from Sand Flat Farm! Ya know when you live in the country how your house always seems attract stray animals or drop-offs? We had our stray chicken back at Christmas & New Year's if you'll remember. I've missed that chicken come running up to me when I'd come home to the farm. Something got her - probably an owl or hawk. And since we don't have any immediate neighbors around & she couldn't have traveled through the acres of hay by herself, I've got a feelin' that somebody dropped this little baby off at our farmhouse...
Yep, we now have a farm kitty. I found her Monday. When I got to the farm, she came running out from under the porch, crying her eyeballs out - she's teeny-tiny, can't be more'n 5-6 weeks old. Skinny-skinny, and it made her eyes look HUGE. (just look at the picture - looks like "space kitty") Well, you know what happened. Soft hearted me (I LOVE animals of all kinds) fed her and gave her water. She ate till she had a big fat tummy and plopped herself back under the porch. She's still a little scared, but she wants to eat more than she's scared.
I did manage to scoop her up and turn her upside down to see what she was - pretty sure it's a girl - we'll know more in a few days maybe. But her bobo is all black fuzz and it's hard to see right now. Plus, she was panicked and trying to get away. She's coming around now, tho, and letting us hold her. I guess she's decided that we're not the mean people that dropped her off and we do have good catfood. I hope she'll stay under the porch and out sight of the owl that lives in the sycamore tree until she gets a little bigger! Now, I'd almost like to have two kitties so they can keep each other company. Will check into that more...
Who knows? Maybe she'll be able to earn her keep by catchin' gophers and moles??? And the rat that's made a home in the garden shed...
Oh, oh, get this! Yesterday, I picked cucumbers again - about 2 dozen more. Did you know crows like cucumbers? Perhaps they were just jabbing holes in them for fun and to irritate me. I thought crows were just carion eating critters. Well, I had to throw away about 10 of the cukes that had crow beak stab holes in 'em. I knew it was crows cuz there was crow tracks all around my cucumber vines. They also managed to scoot an already-exposed potato the rest of the way out of the ground and peck on it, too! What are they doing? Playing soccer? We've got alot of crows. I even have a big plastic owl on a pole above my garden. Lotta good it's doin! Guess I could set out there with a shotgun or my .22 and take pot shots at 'em, but that wouldn't work for long. Kill one, two more come back. Dadgummit! I'm gonna get me some aluminum pie pans and hang 'em all around my cukes. Hope that helps!!! Daddy runs a radio 24/7 by his garden and his pecan trees to keep crows away. I don't have electricity to my shed yet, unless I run a 200 ft extension cord out there so I can't really do that. Got any ideas??
Ok, sorry for the interruption - back to the topic at hand. I'm open to suggestions for a name for the kitty - I'm partial to pet names myself - none of the Chloe or Zoe stuff. (My daughter's dog's name is Bella). Adam wants me to name her some cute little Spanish name. If you have a cute name for this little black and white kitty, send me your suggestions! Whichever one wins gets a prize!!! Don't know what it'll be yet, but a prize just the same!!! Start thinkin'!

Oh, how I hate it when people dump animals! This little one is sooo cute.
Crows, you mean the big ones, right? UGH. I swear they (or ravens, I can't tell the difference) have had a population explosion. I don't mind a couple, but now there are way too many. They get the other baby birds, make a mess, and are noisy. Yesterday, one dive bombed my dog and me.
I'm sorry they have attacked your garden. OH, watch the kitty around the flying beasts, too.
Yep we know about being in the "drop off zone." Five of our Six are rescues, Corrie and Violet were dropped off right at our door. Oh, then there's Spaceghost the cat,,,he was dropped of here. I'm not real good with names...I always cats..kitty kitty! original huh?
Oh I'm glad that you love li'l kitties because she looks as if she needs a friend. Let's see, you found her on a Monday so I think that "Monday" would be a good name. I'm eager to hear if the aluminum pans work because, if they do, I'm going to string some up high in the trees and get a few vultures to move along.
If you already have a "Bella" around... Then I have to suggest "Alice." :-)
Translation: "Twilight" fans will know. ,-)
Memorial Day Weekend, may it be well, with you.
Tuxedo Junction? call her TJ? or perhaps Mercy? you could get another cat and call it grace - then you'd have mercy and grace all the time! I do love kitties - can't have any more animals here but OH I've had to restrain myself lately - saw a litter of kitties at a house we were showing - one feisty semi Siamese was calling to me.
To Sweet :-)
I am partial to the name Bitty as in Bitty Kitty :-)
or a garden name like- Melon or Mater or Pepper or Gopher :-)
I hate when people do that to poor animals, especially when it is so young. glad that you have a big heart.
how about snippet. I am no good at names.
Have a wonderful weekend.'
Well, I WISH someone would drop off a kitty here.... Moles and mice, how does one get rid of them?? I like the Mercy and Grace names. Can't think of anything better :)
PS. Be watching for your pkg in the mail... finally got it out today
You can tell by looking at her, her name is 'Bonita' and you can call her Bonnie for short. I haven't heard the word 'dadgummit' in a coon's age! That is such a Texas thang! Loyd ran a 220 wire to our garage by laying it underground. You just have to remember where it is. You could do the same with 110. I'll bet that kitty will be a good hunter:)
Debbie
Cute kitty kat! I'm not a big cat fan, but I sure love those sweet kittens. Wish they didn't have to grow up.
I think she needs a playmate though. Then you could name them cute names like...Cuff and Link or Salt and Pepper. I know, I'm not good at kitty names. LOL....
Good luck with that.
Hugs,
Tara
What a sweet little kitty. Oh I wish I could have one but allergies won't let me. To me she looks like a sweet little Sophie. As for those darn crows, beside pans you could also hang old music cds. They are also pretty shiny. With our wet weather my garden is very slow to start so lets hope for a sunny and safe Memorial Day weekend.
a very cute little kitty, I think she is very lucky to be left with you. so how about lucky. Good luck with the birds, this summer they ate all my pears but only on the side that I couldnt see from the window. All those jucy pears and when I went out to pick them they were totally gone on one side.

Awww....she is soooo cute! We had a cat that we named Bitsy who grew up to be a healthy large cat. So, I vote for Bitsy.
Thanks for visiting my friend Bee today!
Becky K.
Name her "Si Si" (see see) She is a cutie pie and I'm sure she will be a great little farm cat! You and I...our hearts are made out of the same stuff! I have taken in several! Come say hi :D
Such a cute kitty! I would have melted too. I think you should call her Monday since thats when you found her! or " Tug" since she tugged your heart.
That kitten is so cute, I just want to reach into your blog and pull her out for petting.
I am jealous of all your produce. It is still cold and rainy around here...I think the vegetable seeds are going to drown if this keeps up, and it is supposed to all weekend. So there at your place even the crows are getting fresh cucumbers!
Oh she's so cute! I like Debbie's name 'Bonita'....
We still have our 3 kittens. We've enjoyed them so much, they play so cute together.
I always say there's a special place for people who dump or chain animals....and it's not heaven....
Happy weekend!
Hey Vickie
We have a mama cat that comes to our door when she is near her due dates. I think it may be the neighbors cat but SHE IS NOT TUTORED IN BIRTH CONTROL!!!! Makes me insane! But, she does come to the all night diner here and we feed her. Her birthing center is also in our out buildings. I hunt her down to feed her twice a day, canned mixed with dry food. The poor girl, but I digress!
You want Spanish...Flacka. Not sure of the spelling, but it loosely translates to "skinny woman". I know, you may hate that one too...so often we hear that about ourselves!
Back to the farm, Elaine
What an adorable little kitten! I just love strays, that seems like the only kind I get - I would name her "Grace", my favorite name for strays.
You have Crows, we have Starlings - my husband can't stand them! He sits at the patio doors with his pellet gun cocked and ready! Good luck!
I love fried zucchini! You're makin' me hungry!
Hugs,
Barb
I'm jealous, you have cucumbers, mine are not growing at all. Glad to hear those nasty crows didn't get all of your cukes.
The kitty is toooo cute!
How about "Milagros" (means miracles, or you could name her Luna (means moon).
Irma :)
I think 'Princess' fits her to a tee. She sure is a cutie.
