Hi folks! Whatchy'all been doin'? Me? Well, lookie here what I got in the mail yesterday!
This gift is from Sunny at Sunny's Place. She is doing a "Pay It Forward" giveaway. I'm participating, too. Look at the lovely things she sent my way - a beautiful candle holder and votive, some handmade (by Sunny) candles from her real beeswax when she was raising bees (wait - I mean beekeeping), a little windchime that makes the sweetest sounds and this sweet book entitled His Princess, Love Letters From the King, which is just grand. I can't wait to read it. Short devotions that I will be able to share with my daughter about the love that our Heavenly Father has for his daughters in Christ.
Sunny, Thanks so much for this lovely gift. I know I'm going to enjoy it immensely. Now, I have 3 sweet friends that I am "paying it forward" to, so they will be getting something from me very soon!!!
Got WORMS???
Well, WE GOT 'EM! Hornworms that is - on the tomato plants. They are huge. They start out little bitty and in a day or two or three they've eaten enough of the plants that they are engorged and sure make a mess when you snip 'em in half with your garden shears. They leave little poops everywhere, too. I wanted to just snip 'em, but Tony said he was gonna leave 'em in the metal pot in the sunshine... They've bitten holes in some of the tomatoes, too. I've dusted with Sevin so we'll see...
Got baby birds? Yes? We do, too, baby mockingbirds. The nest is in front of my kitchen window in the crepe myrtle tree. I can do the dishes and watch the mama bird stuffing bugs down their throats. I'm keeping an eye on 'em to see when they jump out of the nest or fall out. We've got cats all around. I guess I should just let nature take its course.
Good night, friends. I'm sleepy. Take good care of yourselves and I'll see ya on the flipside!

Oh my, those horn worms are as big as moles and groundhogs, and messier ( if you don't count holes and mounds in your yard as messy). Wonder if folks in other exotic places would love them dipped in batter and fried, they are THAT big!
Of course you have to watch out for the little baby birds, that is why God allowed their mama to build her nest and raise her young ones right outside your kitchen window, the cats can go catch mice, horn worms, moles, voles, gophers, and groundhogs!
His Princess is an AWESOME book - a dear friend gave it to me a few years back and I read it daily and it was such a comfort.....those worms are huge! When we had chickens, I used to pick the horn worms off the plants and toss them to the chickens - they Loved them! And those babies are so cute....we found a nest in our grape arbor...not sure what kind they are - I'll have to do a little investigating!
Have a blessed day!
Liane
Oh dear, You do grow them big!! The worms, I mean.
Something killed one of our chickens yesterday. I am not happy. We think it must have been a snake. Don't know what else could have gotten in...so now I am on a snake hunt and I am afraid I might find him. lol

Love the photo of the baby mockingbirds! I hope they don't fall out! Velvet, our cat, is lethal if any young are unprotected. I think that is why we mostly have Jays... they are the fiercest parents! Ya gotta admire that! Velvet defers to them. LOL.
is your husband gonna fish with those worms? cute little birds...
You received some nice prizes!
Oh yuck, you're touching those big nasty worms. I'm such a chicken about touching worms..... UGH
The baby birds are so sweet.... a great picture of them.
HAPPY WEEKEND!
Nice gifts!!
BUT oh my, there should have been a creepy worm alert!! Get those things off your plants..yikes.
Then, you redeemed the post with those super cute baby birds. :) Happy weekend.
yikes!!! those tomatoe hornworms! i guess they do grow everything bigger, in TX!
how purrrrrrrrrrrrfect for the bird nest to be outside your window! How perfect is that? :-)
Congratulations on the lovely giveaway from Sunny's Place! And I am coming to you from The Pleasures of Homemaking to congratulate you on winner her June book giveaway.
How fun for you!!!!
I hope those wins makes having those nasty worms on your tomatoes!
I am also having a giveaway~ April Cornell was kind enough to give me some very pretty things. Since you are being blessed... I'd love you to stop over and join in!
More blessings to share,
Yvonne
the pay it forward idea is wonderful.
love those baby birds. hard to imagine
that someday they will appreciate the
worms. :)
Your gifts are wonderful but of course, I especially love that book! :) OMG, I've NEVER seen worms that size! If you cut them in half, does it really kill them or can the two halves go on living like earthworms? Whichever, the mere thought is pretty icky. Good luck!
Hugs,
Sher
Hey, Miss Vickie- I'm trying to get caught up on my poor pitiful blogging- I've missed you!
YEECH on those ugly bugs... those things are HUGE!! Can you feed them to the mockingbirds? *LOL* Baby birdies are so cute... you've got your very own reality show in front of the kitchen window! Neat!
Me again... (DOH!) I forgot to say what an awesome gift you got from Sunny!
Now that is some BIG worms. Glad I haven't seen any of those on my plants!
Had a mockingbird nest in my tree by my art room, but something got the eggs! :-(
ewwww those grubs are huge! garlic spray might help too.
Vickie, so glad you like the gifts! I kept thinking..pink...she loves pink!
What an awesome view of the mockingbird nest! Different; like they don't use as much soft material as I have seen in other nests.
You can keep your hornworms!! If I saw those in my garden, I'd prob run the other way.... YUCK! Hope you can getrid of them.
I always think I should feed those tomato worms to the chickens but it makes me gag to think about eating them second hand (through the eggs)! Nothing seems to really help except picking them off - I suppose it also builds our character to do the yucky tasks to get our lovely 'maters!
Ohhh, those worms are huge. Hope that the sevin takes good care of the tomatoes. Mockingbird babies...gee, you have so much to do already without having a nurserfy full of babes in the nest. Wonderful presents from Sunny!
The gifts you received are very nice!
What a very special thing to have, not the worms, yuk, but the nest right outside your window. Don't let a mean ol' cat get them. I would be in the kitchen alot more if I had that outside my window to watch. Keep us posted on their progress.
Hi Vicki!
What a lovely gift - homemade bees wax candles, yum! Paying it forward is such a wonderful idea!
I have to say those worms are so horrible! I'm not sure I would pick one up, I hope you get rid of them . . . really soon!
The baby birds are adorable - what a nice "blessing" to look at outside your window:o)
Stay out of the heat!
Hugs,
Barb
Love those little yellow beaks. More pics please.
