Handsome Hubby got himself a new toy!
Finally did it this weekend on Saturday. He's been wantin' one for two years now and finally decided to take the leap and bite the bullet. We needed it here on the farm. Ya just gotta have a tractor if you got land. There's always so much mowing/ shredding, movin' dirt, leveling, and stuff that a farmer/rancher's gotta get done. We all got to drive it. It's not a huge tractor. When/if Tony takes over the hay production one of these old days, he'll have to get bigger equipment but this'n 'll do just fine for now. Princess and her dad were doing some cleaning up around the barn area and some burning. She's mastered that "flipping the bucket" up full of dirt. Takes some coordination to the the "flip" just right and not lose all your dirt...
Daddy had his turn - I think he was more excited about the getting the tractor than Tony! He did some mowing and grating... stayed over at our place ALL DAY...
Mom of course had to have her picture made looking all farmer's wife-y... very cute, mom!
And last but not least, me , myself, and I --- I did drive it around and piddle a bit with it....
A good July 4th holiday was had by all. We stayed out at the farm all weekend, and ate way too much. I don't have internet out there, so no July 4th post. But you can bet that we were thinking about all that it meant. And we're out in the country, so there were fireworks going off all around us - we didn't have to buy - just sat outside and enjoyed....
I was in the house watching the (Macy's) fireworks display at some point and the great music numbers on TV. It would be so neat to be there on the Hudson River for a display like that and hear all the old patriotic songs and sing along. My heart swelled with pride just listening on TV. At the end, when they played the Star-Spangled Banner I did have to stand up and put my hand over my heart and sing this moving song with the band & the rest of the nation. It still brings a tear to my eye... We flew our flag...
We cooked out a couple of times, spent special times with family members and beloved friends, ate WAY too much. I finished canning a dozen jars of peach preserves - YUM. Also, put up another dozen pints of hot sauce... did some yard work, went to church, and we just had a wonderful 3 day weekend all the way around.
An aside... you see how low my flag is to the ground? Well, Sam and Alice have noticed. They love to run and jump up and hang on the flag with their little toenails! They think it's great fun when they're out wrestling in the front yard and attacking each other to include my nice flag in their antics. They look like little mini-Tarzans as they go leaping through the air and swinging around on my flag. Note to self: PUT FLAG AWAY TIL NEXT HOLIDAY...
We move Princess back to school this weekend... if...
if...
if...
IF we can git her off the tractor!!! There she goes again! Mowing the fence rows! Princess, wait! Come back! You have to go back to college!!!!

Oh my! I can't let my hub see this!!!
great tractor...love the family photos...love the flag photo...have a great week....
Happy 4th of july to you all. The tractor looks like lots of fun. What a wonderful family you have.
Your "corn is as high as an elephants eye" (header)..very cool.
Yup there that little farm gal goes..she's probably like to take it back to school with her!
It is a real nice tractor..my dad would have loved it as he farmed his 300 acres...much better than the old beat up Alice Chambers that was always breaking down.
Up to 3 years ago my husband managed a crane business...now retired but working, he works foe an equipment place...he goes out and visits with farmers everyday, to see and get them what they need, he loves it and them! :D
We could have used that this week to move our pile of dirt. Oh well, Jonathan got a lot of exercise.
I love all of your pictures on the tractor. So very cute.

Too much Fun! How much fun to get away and farm. My son would love this!
Love the tractor and yes, it is sexy!!! I want an old tractor just to have. I could drive it to the post office. I'm sure my neighbor would think I've lost it if they don't already. Love being out at the farm through you pictures.
I"m proud for y'all to learn to handle the tractor - my hubs thinks I'm not that good a driver - hmm - maybe he doesn't want me to mess with his tractor. Sounds like a PERFECT holiday weekend and I can SO see you living at the farm full time.
Diana said what I was thinking -- DON'T LET RICKY SEE THIS!!! He's been "green" with envy seeing all the new John Deere's everybody's buying lately. Our little Kabota needs a green friend. Princess reminds me of my Rich; he LOVES driving a tractor and can stay on it all day. Hope you can get that girl off that thing tonight and on to school tomorrow. :)
Gosh I love a good John Deere tractor story! And, the flag photo is spectacular!
Looks like you had a great weekend! There is just something about men and tractors. Daddy keeps 'tradin up' - loves to go to the tractor auctions in Noonday.
Now that's a fine looking tractor!
I love your pictures....... the flag with the sun is so beautiful..... I can imagine Alice and Sam having a great time!!!
Hugs,
Haha! reminds me of OUR "Princess" and HER dad....
Looks like you had a very good 4th, and I am glad you had an enjoyable weekend. You work sooo hard! We had niece and her hubby and 3 kids from PA and it was a good time too.
Well, you know that tractor leads to a whole gift line for Christmas. There's the ever popular John Deere hat - nothing run's like a Deere, John Deere pillow - my hubby has one, John Deere lamp for his bedside table, etc. It's great...you'll never run out of things to buy for him and Princess too. OH, she needs a girl Deere t-shirt for school!
He thinks his tractor is sexy. Well it is! And so is he, workin' it!
Oh what a beeeeeeeeeutiful photo of the lowering sun, between flag and porch! Great photo opppppppppppp!
And your 4th of July sounds perfect. Close to the land. Able to really appreciate all which that day means, to all of us.
Hugs...
I think today is the day for new tractor post. I posted my hubs new mini also. He had to get the bucket, forks and a lawn mower. He is so proud of it too.
You are much braver than me as I don't get on it. I grew up in the city and not fond of the big machinery.
Glad you had a great 4th. We just stayed home and watched the neighbors do displays.
that's a rehearsal dinner photo someday!
your husband has treated the whole
family to a very special toy. :)
Looks like fun down on the farm! I love John Deere Green!!!
Princess is very pretty and she makes driving a tractor look like the very best thing a pretty girl should do~
What a wonderful way to celebrate our country's birthday Vickie.Fun memories all round for you and yours. Your Mom is so cute, glad she got to pose on the tractor too!
Every farm boy needs a green tractor! So much to do, so little time, and a tractor makes it so much easier, right!? You all looked like you were ready to start farming, sitting proud on the tractor - loved it!
The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays too - and I always stand with my hand on my heart when I hear the Star Spangled Banner! My family thinks I'm kind of silly, especially when it's on the radio, but, that's just how I tick! Your picture of the flag was gorgeous!
Hugs,
Barb
That sounds like an absolutely fabulous Fourth weekend! Love your new tractor and that your Princess makes it her own!

Aw,I love these 'family' pictures! The last photo is so beautiful!
We need one, too. Can we borrow yours? Hope you can round up that gal of yours. But, she's doing such a great job! Loved your parents' photos taking a spin (or pretending to). Hope that your hubby gets a chance to ride his tractor!
My husband.............and yes, I too.....have dreams of one day getting a tractor. Your photos and words made me smile because I know we would be just as excited. blessings,Kathleen
My husband loves his tractor, so I understand this post! Sounds like you had a great holiday weekend. Sometimes it is good to get away from the internet for a while!
Love the tractor!!
Everyone looks so natural on that tractor. Princess especially. And the green field matches the John Deere colors. I see a Christmas card picture in the making.
