Fall on the Farm

Last hay cut for the season at Sand Flat Farm.  The hay is already all sold and that's good. When we get our own livestock, I'm sure we'll be keeping some of that.  Below the sycamore tree is turning golden - I think these are my favorite tree - I love the graceful way the branches grow and the white bark with the different colors of grey and green and brown sheets of bark that peel off.  They kinda remind me of aspens on steroids. I love 'em!
We're starting to see color around here.  I spotted this beautiful red maple on the way to work last week. They don't last long, but they're gorgeous while they last!
There is a new cat hanging around - I have named him Jasper (just for you Aunt Amelia). He is a complete and utter nuisance.  He's a big cry-baby, meowing all the time and he's LOUD, and gets all underfoot.  He sits at the front or back door and yowls and cries for someone to come outside and feed him at all hours, AND he's finicky!  He won't eat the canned catfood that comes in little chunks - he only wants the solid stuff and Meow Mix crunchy food. He'll turn his nose up at anything else.

I'm sure Miss Alice is  attracting boyfriends right now, but she goes to the vet Monday for her spay. I cannot make this Jasper leave.  I'm about ready to haul him off and drop him in somebody else's neighborhood.  You can tell that he's been around people.  I figger somebody dropped him at our farmhouse, too.  If he'd quit waking us up and caterwauling at all hours of the day and night I wouldn't mind him staying - 'specially since Mr. Sam disappeared  :(   I did tell Jasper, however, that he would be making a trip to the vet for an anatomy alteration, too, should he decide to stay...
He's a nice big tomcat with beautiful markings, looks like he's been drinking chocolate milk, AND he's got pretty blue-green eyes.

Alice doesn't like him. She's been either under the porch OR on the roof.  Jasper is very put out that I'm feeding him at the garden shed, and I'm letting Alice in to eat.  He eats all her food, and she's not getting anything. Here she's hiding from him under my wagon full of mums. Very cute!

Now I'll leave with you these beautiful autumn sunsets.  The golden glow of autumn sunsets - it's magical and beautiful to me to see the palette of God streaming across the sky. Enjoy!!!

Your pictures are awesome! So very beautiful. The pic of the cat under the flowers is the cutest thing ever, looks like a calender picture. The tom cat is a very handsome guy and he sound like a real cute cat to have around! Have a great Halloween and come say hi :D

I've really enjoyed your post, the photos are wonderful, Vickie. I'm just a little partial to country scenes! :) The sunsets are awesome.

I have always liked sycamore trees, too, there is one that I especially admired on my drives to work in winter.

Your new kitty is so cute! Hope he quietens down so he can stay. Amazing how finicky they can be about their food, isn't it? My kitty only likes the beef flavored Friskies canned food and Meow Mix dry.

Have a good week,
Cheryl

Vicki, I just love your farm...it's so beautiful and I also love the red maples - there's a huge one I pass on my way to work and I actually gasped at it's beauty yesterday...
Alice and Jasper are adorable and may end up being the best of friends!

Gorgeous photos! And Jasper is quite a handsome guy. Maybe he'll grow on Miss Alice.

LOVE all your photographs...poor Alice I am sure she will come 'round...well...maybe...or at least tolerate Jasper. He does have the most beautiful eyes!

Alice is so very pretty. Jaspar is handsome. Too bad he comes in mouth first. You're getting Alice off to the Vet in the nick of time...I hope. This reminds me of the time my daughter took her cat for the spaying and the vet discovered that it was "too late." He told her that it was no big deal. My daughter was horrified and told him that she didn't believe in abortion so home went the teenage mother and a batch of kittens was born. My daughter gave away the mother cat to my niece and kept one of the kittens. Fascinating story, eh?

Your farm is such a lovely spot...thank you for sharing the colors on trees and in the sky.

Not sure what you've been doing for housekeeping at your blog, but I can tell it's different. Gotta peek around some more.

Mornin' Vickie. Thanks for sharing your beautiful fall color. We've had some here in Middle TN, but it's been so dry that it isn't near as pretty as it's been in the past.
I had to laugh out loud at the gopher and kitty story. We have a Jack Russell "Terrorist" that loves to dig after the moles. He is often successful in getting them, but he never covers up the holes he digs! so we have to be careful about where we step! It's funny to watch the chickens watch him as he digs. There's been a couple of times when our little banty rooster has decided he didn't like him digging too close by and he's jumped on his back! Surprisingly enough, the dog (Buster) runs off instead of attacking the rooster!
Thank you for your sweet comment about my latest post. As I said, it's been a challenging year, but we are pushing through with the help of the good Lord!
Blessings to you and your family on your awesome piece of Texas soil!

What wonderful pictures.
Our trees have pretty much lost most of their leaves since we have had frost, and with the rain storm and wind yesterday that kind of took care of them.
I loved the one of the cat under the wagon.Cute
Thanks for sharing.

Oh Vickie all of your pictures are outstanding and beautiful! Our leaves aren't turning, it's so nice to see your autumn leaves.

Maybe Alice is coming into 'heat' and that might be why Jasper is meowing so loud....he might be trying to get that pretty girl's attention. Good thing you're having her fixed soon.

Jasper's eyes are so unusual...
If I HAD to pick a favorite picture it would be....Alice under the wagon with the pretty pink flowers....... sunset is gorgeous!

Jasper is a handsome fellow... if Alice doesn't like him maybe she's after the more intellectual, hard-workin' type. Smart girl, that Alice!

Doesn't God's pallet sometimes make us wonder what we are fooling around with paint for? It does me. Beautiful Photos, Vickie! Have a great blessed day!

Oh my gracious! "Jasper" is being a royal pain. Not very "Jasper-like" at all. Well, we just won't remember or speak of how "Jasper" tried to do his vamp-thing on poor innocent "Bella," though, will we? Nope, we won't. >,-)

And "Alice" is not being very "Alice-like" with this running away from "Jasper." -sighhhhhhhh- I'm beginning to rethink my naming process. -sigh- -pout- -moan- looks like I may well not be too great at this stuff, after all. -pout-

:-))))))

The color of the trees is amazing, as are teh sunsets.
Jasper is a pretty good looking fellow. I hope he quiets down soon. Darling picture of Alice with the wagon and the flowers.
I feel bad for her up and coming surgery, but it's for the best. She won't attract so many fellows after that, I guess.

Maybe Jasper will earn his keep!
The fall colors are beautiful. I'm partial to maples for color but we have some sycamores that are pretty too.

What beautiful Fall photos! The farm is pretty, and Texas does have some of the most gorgeous sunsets I have ever seen! We were there one time in December, and I could not believe how beautiful it was! Thanks for sharing.

I would love to have Jasper - put him in a box and ship him to me! I found a mouse in my pantry this morning! I have been on a mouse hunt all day long and threatening to go get a cat, with big teeth! Apparently, mice are not afraid of big black dogs - or maybe big black dog is afraid of mice!!??

Alice is so cute - don't you just love those furry little friends?

Hugs,
Barb

Box that Jasper up and send him to Barb! I feel her pain having mice in the house. On the other hand, I might have to make a trip there and fetch him myself! :) The sunsets have been lovely; glad you captured them in pictures. This year, we ended up with 125 round bales of hay in one cutting and was happy to see the bales leave the fields. Love the way the pastures look after they're cut. I can tell you're happy at the farm! :)

Great post! Maybe Jasper is Alice's Rhett Butler! She should be so lucky!! Keep us posted!

I'm lovin that handsome Jasper. We had a neutered tomcat, Twister, for 16 years and he was a "talker"! We miss him still--My hubby and I are both softies about cats--Alice will get over it--cats have a way of working it out, but sometimes it takes time.
Your trees are just GLORIOUS!!! God's paintbrush!

Oh, Vickie, your photos are gorgeous! Love me some fall! I think you might as well load Jasper up and take him to the vet at the same time you take Alice... maybe they will make friends while recuperating. ;) He is a quite handsome fellow.

Beautiful fall pics, Vicki. Aren't cat's funny. But they are such a pleasure to have around. Sure do hope they work it all out, those silly cats.
