Taking a break from moving to say hi and check in on all my lovely blog buddies. I'm trying to cram 2600 sq ft of stuff into a 1200 sqft farmhouse. It's unreal. I fear that another garage sale is in order here at the farm. I cannot keep all this junk. But don't you think I should wait til it cools off a bit? Just shove it all in the barn and do it in maybe October? Thank you, I think so, too.
OK, we're gettin' real here, people. The farmhouse was my "playhouse" and I foo-foo-ed it up big time - now it's time for a clean sweep. Git rid of everything that we don't need - including all the pink - in time. This is going to be a working farmhouse - we need space, minimum foo-foo, minimum doilies, flowers and cutesy wall art. This is a time to be practical. Why don't you all come to my house and see what you want? I've got to streamline - playtime is OVER.
I'm leaning more "farm-style" now. Pink foo-foo is over. It'll take time to make the changes. Plus - do you know how quickly pink and light colors get dirty and stained with my guys (and gal) doing the farm thing and bringing loads of dirt into the house? Granted, they're not all here all the time, but me and hubby are, and I must confess that I bring in dirt, too. All the stained light blue towels and cloths are going to the rag bin. In with the dark blue and brown.
First change I've made. You remember my cute little glass-topped garden table and chairs in the dining area? Well, they're OUT. I ran across an old, old handmade farm table, bench and some odd chairs that I'm going to use in the kitchen. I was always afraid that the glass was going to get broken and it only held 4 people. The farm table will hold 8. It's rough cut, but smoothed by the ages and use, and I think it'll be perfect. Won't have to worry about breaking it or scratching it. It's a work table. Only one thing ---
I sat down on the end of the bench and guess what happened??? Just like a cartoon! Up went the other end and I landed on the floor!!!! Stop laughing! At least it didn't hit me in the head. It WAS pretty funny! We'll have to get used to doing a balancing act when using the bench! (sorry for picture quality - phone...)
Princess wanted me to show this picture of some chairs she bought for her little apartment at college. They were covered with burlap potato sacks! How cute is that!
In other news, WE GOT HALF AN INCH OF RAIN! Woo-hoo! It's not much, but we'll take all we can get! The ground was cracked and sandy, grassburrs were sprouting up everywhere, the garden was about gone even with watering from the water hose, the grass is all crackly and brown. There's nothing like the Lord's natural rain to bring life back in all things growing! And nothing like His grace and love to bring life back into our souls!
Back to unpacking, friends - take care - don't forget me! I'll be back! Hugs to all!!!!!

Never fear...can't forget you!
Okay, this is what I have to say. It's going to be tough. That bench has to go. Outside on the porch for holding plants in pots, inside for holding books, but not for seating. They're not comfortable and if it's tippy, someone's going to get hurt.
I do like the farmhouse table over the glass topped table. Any room for it on the porch?
Seems as if a lot of us are going through the decluttering and getting down to basics. Blessings to you as you square off against the stuff!
Woo hoo!! Sounds like you are making good progress, Vickie! I love the farm table!!!! And, I look forward to seeing all the changes in store. Princess is already a decorator! blessings and don't work too hard! tanna
I really like your new table! It has a farmy look and I think the room looks bigger for some reason.
Glad you're moved in.
Love the table! May need to reconsider the bench though. The older we get the harder we fall!
Can't believe how much you are going to have to declutter. Big job! Hope you can come visit this summer when you need a break from all the moving give us a holler.
hugs,
tara
Whoops, sorry for chuckling. I think the bench needs to move elsewhere, maybe outside.
I love the look of the farm table and chairs...perfect.
Glad to hear you've moved. So much work trying to downsize, but well worth it.
hugs
ha ha! i'm glad you didn't hit your head!
sorry you are having to edit so much,
but i actually like your new table better.
i'm really happy you got some rain!
I am not much for the froo froo pinky style anyhow - definitely like the changes you are making - and yes the half inch of rain is worthy of celebration - never forget you - fun to see you and your fella making the big (downsize) change!
Ahhhh....your farm home. So happy for you, getting all settled in. I like the changes you are making too.
I did smile....just a bit...at the image of that bench going up. I've been there. Done that.
I definitely agree that your yard sale would be much more comfortable in September or October. For sure!
I know you're glad to be settled in one place. I like the table set, but I miss the foo-foo. I know it's hard to keep up though, so not much of that around here either. So glad you got rain!
Glad you're back :D
Deb
Sounds like you are getting settled. Yard sales in cooler weather sounds good to me.
You are going to love waking up out there every day, not just the weekends.
Congrats on the move, and great find on the table. Be careful with that bench :)
Margo
Working on that farm house sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you will post about your progress!
I am with you I am not in kean of the pink froo-froo either - it look nice while it leasted -- right!
Totally excite to see your new style come through..
Oh I love you making your "playhouse" into a home...what a true blessing and all the adjustment will be such a joy. I love the new table, I can totally see the bench going up. Love the daughter's apartment chairs.
Yea for the rain...may your summer be a blessing as you continue to adjust and dream of the future before you...God is good.
You-are-there! How super-wonderful! I'm so happy for you.
Sorry you still have "stuff," but glad you know that it has-to-go. :-)
And it will be fun, re-doing the pink-froo-froo too. Necessity calls and it will be fun.
Your Sweetie's chairs are the cutest thing!
I know you are bussssssssssssssssy, but keep us posted, when you can. And we'll take any pics we can get!!!! Pics of change rock, big time. :-)
Gentle hugs,
~♥~
Yay for you! It will be so good to be unpacked and actually settling in! Good you got a welcoming rain!
Haven't visited for a while, and look what you've done! None of my business, but I think you need a new playhouse for your pink and foo-foo stuff. Obviously, this meant something to you, so why get rid of it all? I'm thinking one of the outbuilding fixed up or a new one built. Don't you need a guest house or an art studio????
My, Vicki, you are busy busy!! Congrats on moving to the farm full-time...can hear the excitement in your post. LOVE the new table!! it fits in perfectly!!
Keep sharing your transformations - and have a blessed weekend!
Love,
Liane
Congratulations on your move! I love reading your blog...I am currently a "wanna-be country girl" who is trapped in the city, so I applaud you!
I LOVE your new table...I'll be interested in seeing how things go with the bench.
Hope you are totally settled in soon (I've done some unpacking in my day, so I know how that goes). I can't wait to see what's next!
How wonderful that you have finally moved to the farm! I know how you love it there. Hate to hear that you are getting rid of all your pink - maybe keep it in the guest room?
I've had a bench at my table for nearly 25 years (my dad built both the table and the bench when the boys were small) I've done the sit on the end thing a time or two! You get used to it, but there are still occasions when I forget!
Hey Chickie -- SAVE ME SOME STUFF!!! I'm comin' down! :) Really like the change in the kitchen. I agree with the pink foofoo. OUT! But I have a friend that painted her Victorian livingroom a light pink. Really pretty. PTL for the rain! I think I had 3/4" at the renovation house. Looks like I'll need to water again this week though. Love ya!
You are too funny Vickie! It will be fabulous when you are done!
Miss Vickie- you are so funny! And no, I wasn't the one laughing... *giggle* Okay, maybe I was.
I love the new look! No foo-foo for me- I love the farmhouse look.
Hurry back- I miss you when you're gone so long! hehe
Dang girl! Who knew that bench was a buckin bronc. You need to hang a warning sign nearby. lol
I love your style... the furniture rocks. I like it alot more than than the before pic. The pie safe in the before pic is gorgeous though and I have to say I love that apple green. There are so many green depression things that go with that color. I like chandeliers too... so I think I like the before and the after. I think changes are always a good thing though. Even seasonally. Love that enamel ware pan below the pie safe too. You've got a lot of cute things!
It looks so warm and inviting! I loved both looks, but the last is definitely durable, except when you sit on the bench in the wrong spot. As for downsizing, I've had to downsize, then was able to upsize, then downsize again and back to upsizing...over and over...the pains with trying to select which things to let go! Augh! Looks as if you are doing a beautiful job!
