Daughter and BF came home this weekend - she's in a wedding this afternoon and gone to town to get foo-foo-ed up and she's busy with all that while BF went to run errands with my husband. BF plays football - he's a big tall guy - and hubby has a couple of he-man jobs to do here at the farm that will take more muscle than he himself has got, so he's going to take advantage of BF being here.
I have to thank all of you who have expressed their sympathy and concern for our friends, Helen & Erin, who lost their daughter Kayla two weeks ago. I really appreciate your love and prayers and kindness and I know that our friends did, too. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! The Lord is showering His lovingkindness upon them daily! What would we do without the Lord AND our friends and loved ones??? I just don't know!
(several hours later...) OK, we're back in the COOOOOL now. It was the flux capacitor on the A/C. No, really it was! "Back to the Future"??? Hint-hint??
Anyway, the garden's gone, the yard is gone, all the jelly is put up - 8 pints of grape from my two little two-year old vines, 2 1/2 doz pints of plum and a dozen peach preserves. Put up only a little corn - 4 gallon bags of ears - small ears, but they DO taste good. And boo-koo's of pickles. Oh yeah, about a dozen quarts of tomatoes or stewed tomatoes or tomatoe juice, 8 quarts of purple hull peas, 10 quarts of green beans, and several gallon bags of pinto beans. Do you know that down here, purple hull peas are like black gold? I told Tony that we should raise those babies. The farmers' markets are charging $10-$12 a sleeve for shelled peas - not sure if a sleeve is 1 quart or 2. Maybe 2.
Here's a picture of my sunflower seeds still on the flower. They were beginning to fall off and into the garden. The birds were picking them out. Next year, I guess I'll have rogue sunflowers in my garden again!
My dead corn patch...
My dead tomatoes...
My beautiful sycamore tree - I love this tree - it's beautiful against a blue sky
Hoping for rain (which we didn't get) - turned everything kinda orange-y. Wierd...
After one brief shower, the hay pasture greened back up - it looked great for a few days...
I did not re-touch these photos with color - promise - these clouds were awesome...
End of another hot summer day with no rain...
I HAVE to show you this --- My daughter has become quite a fan of the shabby, farmy, rustic look. Look what her BF built for her apartment. She was whining about not have any end tables...
Is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen? She's been wanting a windmill for something. She thought he'd forgotten her birthday. He's been secretly working on this for her! What a sweetheart! He's built her a nice TV stand and a nice big heavy desk for school. He's always happy to build for her whatever she wants! She thinks he's a keeper.
Well, folks, guess that's all for now. We're taking daughter and the BF and maybe my son & his wife out for dinner this evening to celebrate daughter's birthday AND
Hubby and my 33rd anniversary! Take care &
Keep your gown down!!!

Yes, it does sound as if he's a keeper. Don't run him off with too many projects now. Wait until she's hooked him good. :D
What impressive photography, Vickie! Those scenes are incredible. Beautiful sunsets and cloud formations. I did see one red tomato in that dead patch.
Sounds as if you've been out straight with canning and freezing. Glad that you're seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
I do hope it rains there more than it has. I think this is the last day of our heat wave. Tomorrow sounds livable again.
First, I'm so glad that your a/c is fixed. And,,,aren't you glad that you are thru with your canning etc? I'm still in the middle of ours but it's a blessing to be able to have our own stuff in the winter. It does sound like BF is a keeper. Have a blessed weekend.
The Photos of the clouds are awesome,we too have those in the
southwest! Love the windmill yes its the cutest thing for sure.
Glad to know your friends (Helen/Erin) are finding comfort in the Lord and feeling the prayers of others, healing of the hearts take time,Somethings we just

I keep telling my sweet husband to be patient...it is going to rain!
Our place looks about like yours...dried up!
Still thinking about your friends and praying for each them...
Blessings
I do hope the friends who lost their lovely daughter are finding some peace and comfort, I cannot imagine their heartache. The BF is a real keepa, as we say here in Maine. It is hot and steamy here too, the once green lawn is now brown and crispy and my flowers so droopy and sad. Happy 33rd Anniversary to you and your dear husband, it will be 33 years for me in September, my how time flies. Sending blessings from Maine, Julie.
Hi Vickie!
So happy that you got your A/C working - sounds like you will be needing it!
I can hardly believe that your garden is already gone! Mine is just barely starting to produce! I can hardly wait to put a few things in bottles and in the freezer.
Your pictures are so beautiful! We have had some really beautiful sunset here - I run and grab my camera almost every night to capture a little of the sweetness!
Sounds like your daughter does have a keeper! The end-table is very cute... :0)
Take care and try to stay out of the heat!
And so glad to hear that your friends are doing better . . . tender mercies.
Hugs,
Barb
Such Beautiful pictures and sounds like you and I are learning extra gardening lessons this season. Keep going ten miles an hour - in different directions! I know how this goes!! Talk with you soon...
Wow, I'm sure glad you got your AC fixed. I keep seeing on the news about the heat wave. It hasn't hit the Northwest, that's for sure. Your cloud pictures are gorgeous! I am so impressed with all your canning!! My garden is just getting a good start. I will be canning tuna shortly, P U does it ever smell but tastes so good. Take care and stay cool.
Vickie, first off, HAPPY 33rd Anniversary. That is a wonderful accomplishment and a blessing to your family!! Second, Happy Birthday to the Princess! Third, that boy IS a keeper! Fourth, you did a great job with your garden, especially considering the heat and drought conditions! Fifth, I told myself I should have bought stock in capacitors! Mercy, me! We have had two more A/C incidents with our Old Girls since my last whine session. LOL! It's supposed to be even hotter this week! I'm flinching before it even gets here. Stay cool. blessings to you and yours ~ tanna
My question, how did people live in TX, before A/C? How did people live in many places, before A/C? I'm in the NE and being "olden," I don't know how I'd survive now, without A/C.
Do people just learn to adapt, over generations? And then, learn to un-adapt, over generations of A/C?
That boy friend is a keeper. If he can build "to order" like this. :-)
Glad you got things "put-up", before they bit-the-dust with the heat. Do you still say "put up," in TX, in regard to canning and freezing and etc.? :-))))))) "Put up" sounds old fashioned to me, but... I am old fashioned. -gigggles-
Hope you got my email, with click-able link to "Aunt Amelia's Attic" blog at Wordpress. But if you lost it, you can just click on my blue click-able link, in my *Name* and come over to "The Attic's" new home. :-)
Gentle hugs...
Oooops, Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday!
Woo hoo for a/c that works. Hope yours stays working........this heat and humidity and lack of rain are awful.
Your daughter's boyfriend made a wonderful table...so cute and so TEXAS. He'd be a keeper..
Your pictures are beautiful......love the gorgeous sky!!
Happy birthday to your daughter and happy anniversary to you and hubs.
I really like that end table, a great job.
It is very hot and humid here also, glad to hear you got your a/c back.
We did not get any rain at our place but they did around us. We have been having a lot of foggy mornings.
Have a nice day and stay cool.
Well I have to say, hurray for you! At least you were able to have a harvest from your garden. I only have a few pumpkins hanging on and all of my zinnia garden was eaten down by starving rabbits since there is no green grass......anywhere for them. I am toying with the idea of maybe fall gardening, but with no rain and other folks losing their water wells, I think I will wait. Have yourself a good week and I hope you stay cool! blessings,Kathleen
Well, first off~ Happy Anniversary, you two!
Love the windmill table... he's a keeper for sure!
Sorry about your garden, sweetie... hope you get some rain soon, although I know it will be too little, too late...
I agree - any man that thoughtful IS a keeper! Girl it is so hot and dry here - sad we are literally praying for tropical storms but looks like Don is headed way south of us. Loving your transition to farm gal - life is good isn't it?
Re: my move to Wordpress.
No Dear, I am not blogging at "Aunt Amelia's Attic" blog on Blogger, any more.
