I have a big announcement to make...it's been in the works for some time now, and all the final details have been handled! And if I make it public, then I guess it's really gonna happen!!!
My son, Josh, and his beautiful wife, Lindsey, are moving to New Zealand!
Gulp... I still can't believe it. They are planning on staying a year to work, travel, and work with the Lord's church wherever they may be. They have made contacts with missionaries that are supported by Lindsey's home congregation and our church recently began sponsoring another group over there in Auckland, NZ. Things have come together rapidly and smoothly -- I believe there were some "God coincidences" at work here! They've made many contacts with the Christians there in the church and have offers of employment and lodging already! They are both very giving and loving people and have hopes of doing humanitarian efforts especially on the south island where there was an earthquake awhile back. No telling what they'll wind up doing!
They leave next Tuesday and this mother and dad are excited and have heavy hearts at the same time. I know Lindsey's parents are feeling the same as Tony and I are. Their house is empty - everything is in storage (imagine all those new wedding gifts), and they are SO anxious to leave. They are packed and ready to go. I know they'll miss all their family back home, but this is something they've both wanted to do for a long time. And it's an awesome time in their young lives to go! We wouldn't feel NEAR as comfortable with their decision if they didn't already have some good Christian people over there to welcome them and help them to get on their feet!
We asked them if there weren't a farther-from-home place in the world they'd like to go. They couldn't think of one.
I'd appreciate your prayers for their safety as they fly and move about in New Zealand, for good health while gone, that they will make strong and lasting friendships with the Christians there, and that they will grow closer as a couple and grow spiritually in ways that they've never dreamed of before. May they help edify and strengthen the Christians and churches that they work with and may the Lord grow them in His grace. And please pray for their parents to be supportive and encouraging and not miss them too awfully much!
Oh and by the way, we named our new pup Gypsy - since she was a stray. We think it's fitting. She seems to like it. Thank you for your prayers.

Hi Vickie!
Wow, what a wonderful adventure your sweet kids will have in New Zealand! I know that they will be watched over and blessed for doing the Lord's work, and blessing the lives of the people there! I also feel your pain, what a hard thing it is to send your kids off to another country . . . so far from home. They will be in my prayers as they serve so willingly and unselfishly. You and your husband will also be in my thoughts and prayers - I know how this tugs on your heart strings, because it's tugging on mine!
I remember how hard it was to send my son on a mission to Boston - a little farm boy from Idaho, in big city was pretty scary. The Lord watched over and protected him for two years as he served there. It was one of the best experiences of his life - he is still blessed because of it, and made lifelong friends there!
What a sweet dog! My favorite dog was my little Border Collie - her name was Gabby . . . for a good reason! I loved her, and you will love your little Gypsy too! He looks like a wonderful guy!
Gentle Hugs,
Barb
Oh...how exciting and scary. God will bless them. I have a friend in New Zealand... Things in Christchurch are so bad!!
What a great name for the new addition.
Prayers and best wishes to the kids.
How wonderful that they are doing the Lord's work here on earth.
Hugs
New Zealand! Oh my! I can only imagine the thoughts you have rolling around in your heart and mind. Still it is wonderful to see them heeding the call upon their lives. May they have a wonderful year there and may they want to return. (Linds at Rocking Chair Reflections has a daughter in New Zealand...you might want to visit her.)
Gypsy is a perfect name for the collie!
Best of luck, to them...
Gentle hugs,
"November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring."

Oh my gosh...this brought tears to my eyes!!!! Just imagine all the wonderous things they will be able to see and accomplish! I sure hope they are able to hook up to the internet and to blog...it will be TOO EXCITING!
I will be thinking of you extra much as they ready themselves for their extended honeymoon! It is amazing for their life to begin with doing such beautiful things...it has got to be a huge blessing for them to have each other share such big dreams. I'm sure those who they contact will be impacted for a life-time.
And knowing that they will have an extended Christian family waiting to help them settle in is definitely a comfort. I bet they will make friends for life and build memories to treasure.
Okay Momma...hang in there...I can't imagine being in your shoes. I did this to my own parents when I left at 18 for Germany for three years...having their first grandbaby in another country...now that I'm older, I can't imagine how it must have felt for my parents to be forced to watch us leave the country. You have raised beautiful, independent children who know where to find God...a mother's most important duty. God be with you during this exciting, yet roller-coaster time!!!

Hi there, Wow what an adventure-glad they are doing it before they have little ones-it would be harder on you if there were grands involved. I've always wanted to go to N.Z., had some good friends who were Kiwi's. Will pray for their safety and all the details to come together as well as peace for you.
Hugs, Noreen
Bittersweet, but full of hope and possibility!! Your prayers will be my own. blessings ~ tanna
I know exactly how your 'mother's heart' feels. Been there, done that! I'd much rather go to New Zealand than Japan! We have SKYPE and talk several times a week, which helps. They actually seem no farther off than they did when they were in Maine. But they are!I've just come to realize my opinion doesn't count, as my parents' didn't either when I left home. It is what it is. God has a plan for our kids too, and His plan trumps mine :D I will say He has helped me deal with it. Hugs friend.

Wow!!!! I just kept saying it out loud...knowing that it is with mixed emotions. We raise them to follow the lead of the Lord, we release them and let them fly. We are proud of them, but at the same time our flesh wants them close enough to touch.
Prayers for them...what an adventure and prayers for the family as you all miss them.
Now get those bags packed so you can schedule that trip over there...and Praise God for all the technology!
You truly DO have some fabulous kids - bless those two and am sure they'll have an incredible impact for the Kingdom - wow - New Zealand - at least they speak the language! sorta - Texan can be translated easily into English
You must be so proud, Vickie! I LOVE hearing news like this. I will keep them in my prayers as the Lord brings them to my mind ,,,, and He will. I love praying for young people who are so willing to live for others!
How exciting for them. I know it has to be hard for you and them but, it will only be for a short while and seems to be for one of the best reasons. Prayers for safe travles.
Oh Vickie...
How awesome is this? I am so proud that the two of them have this opportunity to go and to be led by God to do something big in their lives. What a tremendous blessing they will be. I will put them on my prayer list for their safety and for their wisdom in following what the Lord has for them to do...
My heart is with you all as well...I know that this is a bitter sweet moment...To have your children so far away, but yet to know that they are doing the Lord's work...Oh my..
Blessings sweetie..

Oh my.....I know this will be hard for you and Tony, having them so far away, but. .....
Of all the places we've traveled...the south island of New Zealand was our favorite. Start saving your money for a vacation ...the friendliest people, most beautiful scenery, delicious food.."no snakes".....
I thank God there are young couples like your son and his wife, who are being led by God to do HIS work.
In my prayers!
Awesome with bittersweet too..
wonderful too know young couples
are serving the Lord with all their
hearts and doing his work..
Warm Blessings of Joy to you and
your Family...
Hugs

Whoa, Vickie! What an awesome opportunity to minister the gospel! I pray His peace on them and their families as they go halfway around the world for His kingdom!
Gulp,,OH My! God is gonna give you His peace that passes all understanding...I just know it. Wow, our former church has missionaries in that same town. They're in their 30's and such a sweet couple. I bet your youngins will meet them.
God's blessings to you and your kids. I'll be praying for you all. What an honor.
What a grand adventure for them! I will be praying for both of them and you. How incredible to have to wonderful kids that want to be about the Lord's work! How blessed you are!

Thank you for telling me the old Scottish name for those stone "sculptures." I love it!
Someone else said that (Montana or Idaho maybe?) they were/are often made by sheep (???) herders. And sometimes a letter-of-sorts would be left, under the top rock.
Gentle hugs,

which are not in the least concerned
about the coming winter."

Geez! How very far away that is! Best of luck to them! And to you...

Hi Vicki, thanks for your visit, I was just thinking about you yesterday! This header is so stunning..gorgeous! Great news for the lids huh, but scary a bit for parents?! They will be fine as they go forward serving the Lord. So unselfish of them, wishing them many blessings. A young missionary from our church was just hit on his bike in Texas and killed..his 2 year mission was over but he had extended to be with a family that he taught and were being baptized. So sad but I can only imagine that his mission will go on up there for sure. Love your new beautiful dog! ;D
What an amazing adventure for them in this very important time of their lives. I'm thinking that if they left on Tuesday, they probably have a bad case of jet lag right now. Wishing them them the best of luck.
Wow, what a chance in a lifetime for this beautiful young couple.
My prayers are with them for a safe and successful trip and also with you. That this year will fly by 'till you can grab 'em up and hug 'em tightly again.
God bless and have a beautiful day. I know your Mama's heart has to be torn right now.
I would imagine that you would be excited but scared all at the same time, Vickie! I admire them for wanting to serve in that way, but I know you will miss them and worry about them too...
I love Gypsy- such a fitting name for a stray!
i know that bittersweet feeling of sending
one's children to far away places. the Lord
will protect them and comfort you. skype
helps a LOT!
