Hey guys - I promised you a picture of my Navy nephew so here he is. We had a great time going out to eat Mexican food with the grandparents and my sister and my hubby. Clay is my buddy. He's always been my buddy. He kept hugging me like he was never gonna see me again! Which I just ate right up!
He's a good nephew and a good son to his mother. For some reason I didn't get a picture of his mom and him. Hmmm, I think my sis was supposed to send me some pics, but I haven't gotten them yet. Shout out to MY SISTER!!! ARE YOU LISTENING, SIS??? Clay will be going back out to sea and back to the middle east in a few weeks. He's heading back to California in a few days and I'm so glad I got to see him.
This is what we woke up to, I think it was Saturday morning after the storms rolling through the southeastern states. We got some thunder, lightening and a few showers, but the bad stuff missed us. Thank the Lord.
Looks like sunbeams from heaven, don't it? Sorry I've been gone for a few days. My mother in law went back to her nursing facility. She is doing remarkably well for an 80 year old woman. Hip surgery was the only surgery she's ever had in her life. The nurse said she couldn't believe how strong MIL is. Kathryn is up and walking around - she's using her walker, but half the time she forgets. I hope she doesn't fall again, but she's puttering around pretty well.
We spent alot of time out at the farm and my daughter came home over the weekend, too. We've been busy to say the least. My garden is doing well and so are the flowers. That little rain just really brought them out. I'm trying to install perennials wherever possible, so I won't have to keep buying flowers every year. Of course, I'll need some annuals for fillers, but it'd be nice to have a constant garden without having to keep planting. I've moved stuff around and built some new beds this year - still have at least 2-3 beds more to go around the farmhouse. It's slow going but oh so fun!
PS - my daughter did well on her speech. She didn't faint, didn't die of embarrassment or stutter. So I'd say it was a great success. We're waiting to hear whether she got into nursing school for the fall semester. We know she'll be in for the spring, but we're hoping for fall. Keep your fingers crossed for us if you don't mind. She's always wanted to be a nurse. She wants to be a traveling nurse or work on Mercy Ships or something.
Gotta run, my friends. I have a hungry man coming in a bit, and he'll be expecting some grub on the table. Let me go see what I can scrounge up. Hmmm... We've been eating lots of venison lately - it's so lean. He grilled some backstrap and some steaks Saturday over a mesquite fire. They were SO good and so tender - I can't think of anything I like better! YUM. We had broccoli from the garden and a big ole baked potato. We're getting some green onions that are pretty good size now, and I saw this weekend that there are a bunch of baby squash - yellow and zucchini. The purple hull peas and green beans are up and so's the corn. The tomatoes have blooms all over them. I'm so ready for summer tomatoes!
Take care - keep your gown down! Lemme hear from ya!

Squash already?! We have snow peas climbing and greens, onions, salad but our squash has just now reached the four leaf stage.
The skies are stunning.
Your MIL and Nephew will be in my thoughts. Next time you talk to him, please thank him from all of us At The Farm for serving.
It sounds like you have really been busy! Your garden sounds great. Ours is in the ground and doing pretty well. Our storms went through our area Saturday night without much damage. We were lucky.
Your garden is that far along? WOW..we don't even plant til end of May. I believe as you do..lots of perennials and some annuals. Very cute young man, he looks sweet, amazing what they do for our country! Good luck with supper, I was raised on venison but don't like it much now...Come say hi :D
My seeds are just now popping up!
Tell your nephew I appreciate him protecting my freedom! I'll keep him in my prayers; God bless all our military!
Hey girl!
It is great to read your updates. Glad your daughter did so well. My Chelsea wants to be a pastry chef and I am trying to convince her that she could travel on a cruise ship and bake...lol.
I know what you mean about perennials. I finally have worked my way out of needing very many annuals and for this I am mostly happy.
See you later!
Becky K.
I'm so glad you had a good visit with your sweet nephew! What a guy! Family is special.
We had some needed rain over the weekend. I'll be going to my blogging breakfast on Saturday; will let you know how that goes:)

Wow! You have been one busy chickadee! I love military men - just something about them men in uniforms - it just makes you proud!
I love the pictures of the clouds - very beautiful!
I can't believe you are already eating out of your garden - we have not even planted yet . . . way too cold here in Idaho! Hopefully, we will get a chance to put something in by the middle of May.
I love venison! Wild game is truly my favorite meat - my father was a hunter and a fisherman. When I was young, I thought I was being picked on because we had to eat venison, elk and lots of salmon - now, I know how privileged I was! My husband is also a hunter, so we are blessed with lots of wild game at our house!
So glad to hear that your MIL is doing better - still in my prayers.
Have a great week - keep those flowers blooming!
Hugs,
Barb

I thank your nephew for his service to our country. The sky photos are amazing!
Since our son is in the military I'm a sucker for any others serving even more. We love him and are thankful for he and his family.
I'd frame that second picture! It's lovely.
Oh my! You're making me hungry! Your daughter wants to be a nurse? That's extremely commendable in this political climate. As God leads, though, right?! Your nephew is a handsome young man and he still looks nice and thin to me. Glad that your mil is doing so well. They forget to do whatever they don't want to do, I'm finding. ;>
handsome fellow...you can call me when the purple hull peas are ready...oohhh wee I love those...glad you doing well...
Ahhhh.... what wonderful family pictures. The sky pictures are amazing.... so beautiful!
Your MIL has been in my prayers, it's so good to hear that she's doing well.... YEA!
Yea.... for your daughter making it through with her speech.(I sure know that scary feeling).
I betcha she'll make nursing school for the fall semester... Heaven knows, we need good nurses!
Hey, ..... you keep your gown down!!!
Hugs,
Dolores
A nephew heading off to the Middle East deserves all the hugs and kisses his family can bestow on him before departure. What a handsome nephew too. Vickie, your family seems so supportive of each other and that is a good thing and a blessing.
Your garden in Texas is so far and away productive in comparison to the Pacific Northwest garden time..we are barely past a freeze here!Any new varmints trapped?
My prayers are with Clay as he sails around this world keeping us all safe. My hubby spent 22 1/2 years in the Navy so sailors are very special to me. They are the best!! And, do they ever look handsome in their uniforms. !!!
What a beautiful. Nice to read you.
Take care,
Mal
They do indeed look like sunbeams from heaven. Beautiful.
You are talking about gardens and I am still fighting the frost. I did see a few tiny seedlings up, and now I hope they make it! If not, I'll be replanting. Ha.
Have a great day!
Hi Vickie,
I just wanted to stop by, check in to see what you and your family have been up to in-between chores. I went away last weekend and getting ready to go away again this weekend with working during the week. You should be proud of your nephew, he is our country's hero. I'm glad your MIL is recouperating well. Have a wonderful week and I'll check back in again soon.
Connie
Chickie, has your gown been up? We'll have to talk about that in June! So glad to hear that you MIL is doing well. What a blessing to still have your health at 80. My aunt just turned 80 but you'd never know it. She looks about 60. Thanks for catching us up on all the news. Was beginning to worry about ya! Will email tonight.
Hi Vickie! Glad your garden is doing well. My daughter is in the Navy and she is currently in California. She will be stationed in Hawaii soon. I miss her so much! blessings,Kathleen
