Memorial Day & Farm Kitty

Memorial Day - brings to mind lots of different things for different folks.  Altho I haven't had anyone directly that has died defending America, I have had many in the armed forces who've served our great country.  Memorial Day has a special significance for me this year - my nephew, Clay, is serving in the Navy.  My sister has made a great sacrifice, too, even tho it was Clay's decision.  She puts him in the hand of God every single day.  I know there are countless other parents and loved ones who do the same.
My dad was in the Navy and later in the Naval Reserve.  I remember when I was a little bitty girl the weekends that he went off to the Reserve activities.  He would put on his "whites" that mama had starched 'n ironed stiff as a board so carefully.  I remember him picking me up and swinging me around, and sometimes he'd let me wear his sailor hat for a few minutes before he'd go. Didn't wanna get it dirty, ya know!

Tony's dad was in the Marines and the Army - two different stints.  I don't know much about his days in the service. Tony's uncle Horace's plane was shot down in France and spent some time in a prisoner camp until the war was over.  He would never talk about it but he never quite got over it.  He has Alzheimer's today and struggles in his mind over things that happened to him during the war. I've got some great uncles that served who of course are long gone now, but I remember them.  Let's remember ALL of them who served in the past and those who are serving still today in prayer - for thanksgiving and for His watchcare over them.

IN OTHER NEWS...
Meet ALICE THE FARM CAT

She protested loudly that she really didn't wanna have her picture made right in the middle of her dinner.  She really didn't wanna have her picture made at all.  "No paparazzi!" She kept squeaking! She has food on her mouth and is being very immodest indeed! "Well, that's what you get for interrupting my dinnertime!"

Alice, please quit being so rude!  That's not a nice way to meet new people!!!

I'm sorry, folks, that Alice is making such a little pill of herself upon her introduction!  She really will have to learn some manners.  Wait - cats don't ever learn manners, they always do what they want!

WHICH MEANS...

Aunt Amelia, YOU have won the "Name the Farm Kitty" Contest!!!  After much debate and much discussion around our house this weekend, the name "Alice" has been bestowed upon this skinny little orphan.  Thank you Aunt Amelia!!!  If you'll please email me your address, I'll get your grand prize in the mail ASAP!!!  And it WILL be a surPRIZE, cuz I don't know what it's going to be yet!!!

Thank you to all who entered - they were all cute names and there were several we liked alot, but "Alice" came out on top!  Now, Alice, mind your manners!!!

Alice is a perfectly delightful name. Congrats to Aunt Amelia! It's true that these men and women who serve never quite get over their experiences. It's incredible to me how many were able to move on all the same.

Hope that you have a delightful Memorial Day. Keep gentling that kitten because she appears to need it. LOL!

Oh yes!!! May we remember all Military. And their families.

Good grief! You picked the name I suggested! Good grief! ,-)

Not sure how many of your readers are familiar with the 'Twilight' books/films but... The character of "Alice" is loved by all Twi fans. She's tiny... Reminds you of a tiny ballerina or pixie. With black, spiky hair.

See? Perfect for your stray. :-)

Mmmmmmmmmm, you know I don't enter blog contests to win. 'Cause I never did a give-away myself. :-( But how can I not wonder what my surPRIZE will be? ,-) My address will be in your email addy mail box, shortly.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... You aren't gonna' pack a dead gopher in dry ice and send him to me though, are you?????????????

Alice is a great name for a pretty farm kitty. Love her.

My father was in the Army. I remember balling my eyes out as we left the airport, as he caught one of his flights back to foreign lands. Despite the sad memories, I also have good memories of him being in uniforms, in parades, and I will never forget the pride he had for being a part of the Armed Forces. He dedicated a lot, and so do all of the other past and present. God Bless them all! We remember.

I love the name, Alice! Auntie, is also a big winner in my book!

She is an adorable kitten - I just love strays . . . of any gender!

Prayers indeed go out to all of our service men and women - I have read so many stories today about those who served. My heart just can't take anymore - neither can my eyes, they are red from crying!

Hugs,
Barb

Alice is adorable! Thought about you Sunday when we drove into Tyler to see my FIL. Spent the night and came home yesterday! It was hot in Tyler, too!

Awwww, she's so cute and looks like our cat named Clark. Clark just disappeared on us, so I hope your sweet little girl will stay around. Clark's little sister was gotten by a neighboring dog. That was a sad day.
I, too, have several family members that have served in different branches of the military and am extremely grateful to each of them. Good post, Chickie.

Alice is just precious! Vickie you asked me about how I keep bugs off of the cabbage..........well at first something was eating holes in my leaves as you said what was happening with yours,...........I have a lot of Merrigold seed. If you smell Merrigold seed, the seed smells just like the plant and flowers..........so I took handfuls and kind of squeezed them all over the cabbage and underneath the plants. Also when watering, maybe a few will sprout. If you are using seven dust, try sprinkling the ground underneath the plants. This seems to help more. And yes, hopefully, I will be having Zinnia photos. I have a gigantic lot of seed this year and I plant to plant the garden from last year, plus a new space I have been working on. As for pumpkin planting, it is ok to plant this late.....like this week......you will have a good out turn for the Thanksgiving season to decorate with. Have yourself a wonderful weekend. blessings,Kathleen

She's adorable! I just love the markings on "tuxedo cats". Alice looks a lot like my own little Velvet.
