Sam is Missing....

With a heavy heart, I am sad to report that Sam, one of our farm cats, has gone missing.  He was there Thursday, and Friday, we could find not a trace of him.  Don't know what happened.

We have two kitties with very distinct personalities.  Alice is cautious, flighty at loud noises and runs at the sight of a new person or animal.  She's always on guard.  Sam, on the other hand, is very laid back almost to the point of appearing to be lazy.  He loves new people, is curious about new animals, lolls about in the yard and on the porch, and runs to the front gate when he sees people approaching.  They are both almost grown...

I'm trying to believe that perhaps Sam decided to follow one of the  "walkers" that stroll by our place at any given time of day.  I'd like to think he decided to take up with somebody like that.  Perhaps someone decided they needed this friendly kitty at their house and let him come with them.  Perhaps he decided to go hunt for a girlfriend (he was scheduled to be 'fixed' in a couple of weeks) but I don't know why since he's got lovely Alice right there with him.

I don't wanna think the worst.  I refuse to think the worst.  So, what do I do?  Take a chance and get me another kitty to keep Alice company?  I'd like to, but at the same time, we'd already had all their shots and vet visits and all that was left was the neutering.  It does get expensive.  I really need another skittish kitty like Alice. My Mamaw's barn cats were almost feral.  Of course, you couldn't catch them for any kind of health care and there were always kittens, but they kind of fended for themselves and did their own hunting even tho Mamaw threw out scraps for them every day..  I did not want to get too attached to my cats cuz I knew that living on the farm can be perilous at times for the animals.  But I guess it's almost impossible NOT to get somewhat attached.

On a lighter note, my future daughter in law, Lindsey, and her mom and Josh invited me to go with them Friday evening and all day Saturday to look at possible wedding venues.  They want an outdoor wedding and we looked at four different settings in our area.  A ranch wedding, a lakeside wedding, a beautiful estate wedding and a wedding at an Arabian horse farm.  All very different, all beautiful.  I'm curious to see what they will choose.  They have a couple more they are going to look at, but they need to decide probably THIS week what they'll do.  Dates are filling up fast!  Lindsey and Josh are wanting their fairy tale wedding!  I know it'll be wonderful!

I was SO touched that they invited me.  Usually, the wedding is mostly planned by the bride and her mother.  But Lindsey and her mom want me to be involved in the process - I think that is so special!  Her mother is an absolute jewel and I know from whom Lindsey gets her sweet nature.  This photo of the "kids" was taken after Josh had taken Lindsey fishing. He proposed on the lake after they got through fishing. Lindsey was wanting to go cuz she'd never been before!  It was sweet, and my family and Lindsey's family were all at the farm to greet them after the big event for their party!  (they DID catch some fish, too!)

Well, I gotta get busy here at work.  I'm sorry I'm not able to post more right now.  It's been SO hectic with the ... well.... you know.... you're all busy, too.  I think we have something going nearly every single weekend this fall - ALREADY - My calendar is FULL!  It's that time of year, and the holidays will be here before we know it.  Oh PLEEEEAAAZZZEEE, can we skip Christmas this year??????  I just want Autumn and Thanksgiving to last and last!  I love Thanksgiving!  Autumn kinda gets skipped over here in Texas cuz it's so blasted HOT til right before Thanksgiving. I want a looooooonnnnngggg  Autumn this year! Christmas is too much pressure - it all falls on ME.  Whine, whine, whine!!!  And we still are having near record high temps in the mid-90's and TOMORROW'S THE FIRST DAY OF FALL, FOR PETE'S SAKE!

Ya'll have a great week, 'n Keep your dress down!

Hi there - cute blog! I'll have a look around more later on. Was thinking about a wedding on an Arabian Horse farm - that would be lovely - bet the grounds are pretty if its anything like the farm near where we live. They always keep it looking so nice and neat.

Me, too, Vick! I'm a bucket of whine this fall! Maybe if you and I would not stay up so late, we'd be less whiney! ;) Sorry to hear about Sam; maybe he'll return. That's just the way of the wild. Would rather it be a cat than a kid. LOVE the picture of Josh and Lindsey! What a cutecute couple! So sweet they are including you in the planning. Have fun and build those bridges!
Love ya, girl! Talk to ya later.

Cats have a way of showing up when least expected and so I am praying for Sam to show up!

Of course, you were invited! :D No, you're right, that's very special indeed. Let us know what they ultimately decide upon. I think I'd go with the lake wedding. No, wait, the estate wedding, but, no, perhaps the ranch...oh brother! How are they going to decide?

it is impossible not to get attached even to livestock - and I call the chickens "my girls" - so I know it feels bad to be missing Sam - but so many possibilities. Have you thought of getting a cat from a shelter? They are usually already given shots and neutered or close to it.

I thought I was looking at Lily Bud, when I saw this picture ....they could be twins.
I'm hoping your Sam is out looking for a girl friend. Your Alice probably isn't in heat yet.....and maybe he is.... hoping he returns!!!

Wow, you are blessed to have such a thoughtful and loving future daughter in law and her mom..... to be included in the planning is so special, and you definitely deserve to be a part of this exciting time.

I love the pictures!

It's just too bad that Sam has gone missing. I have the feeling he knew what was in his future.8-)
They just seem to know. Congratulations to your son and future daughter in law. You must already have a great relationship with them.
As a fellow Texas girl I know what you mean about fall. Such a beautiful time of year to only last a few days. Seems like anyway.
I've been following the gopher count. You just crack me up. Tho I know it's very serious to you.
Cheer up, Sam may be gone but there's "always" another kitty looking for a home. We have four and seems like everyday here's another one.
Y'all take care, Linda

Hi Vickie!

So sorry to hear about your little Sam. I hope he returns home real soon. I have a tender heart too, I always get attached!

I'm so excited about your upcoming wedding! I think it's so nice that they are involving you in the planning part of the wedding. My daughter-in-law was so good about that, and it really made me feel so good.

The blueberry biscuits from your last post looked so good! My husband loves blueberries - can't wait to try it!

Hugs,
Barb

I am so sorry about the kitty, maybe he'll come back. I had some family members who's cat came back a year after it disappeared.

there are lots of wedding venue options around here, Allen loves weddings at Roseland Plantation. Whatever she chooses it will be beautiful.

Vickie, I hope Sam shows up again. =(

It is exciting to be involved in planning a wedding... especially, one so near and dear to your heart. Look forward to hearing more!

I'm WITH YOU on the skipping Christmas (at least the secular parts). I love, love, love Thanksgiving... no pressure, just family, good food and gratitude! All my favorites!

Hope things quiet down a bit for you... and me, too. ;)

Awwwww, I'm sorry about 'Sam'!

Seems I spent my childhood, adopting and losing cats. -sigh-

So sweet of them to include you, in the wedding plans. But then, you are so sweet, that I can see why they are doing so.

Gentle hugs...

Sure do hope kitty Sam comes home real soon. they do that sometimes, esp. males. We lost one and thought he was gone for good, but he came back. So hopeful!

Hoping and praying that Sam turns up safe and sound!! Maybe the scent of a ladycat called to him! It does happen! Have you put up any signs in your area --like the local gas station/grocery store?
I'm so with you on Christmas!
