Remember her cute little magnets that she was making? Well, my Texas magnet came yesterday, and I opened it immediately and put it on my fridge smack in the middle. Go see VEE's fridge just covered with all her magnets that she made and sent and that her sweetie, John, took to the post office several days in inclement weather! There --- doesn't it really just jazz up my fridge!
In other news, I found a couple of pictures I thought I'd show you. As some of you may know, my sweet mother-in-law has Alzheimers. She's in a nursing home now after breaking a hip and having a stroke. My husband has been SO faithful to go and see her nearly every single day. We always go on Sundays after morning church services. I had THE BEST mother-in-law one could ever ask for. I miss her, and I miss my father-in-law, too, who's gone on to be with the Lord.
She doesn't talk much any more, just smiles and says "I love you". Even tho she can't communicate any more, she knows who she loves. She loves to try to sing! Sometimes, we'll sing a few hymns when we go, and even tho she can't remember our names, she remembers the words and melodies of her favorite hymns, and you should SEE the way her face lights up! She remembers the Bible, too. I am not surprised tho, because it's a testament to her faith and love for the Lord. THAT's what has stayed with her.
WE LOVE YOU MEMA!
Think I forgot to show you these following pics... Out on the lake that we fish at, an otter (I think) appeared one day not long ago, and I luckily had my camera handy. Pretty cool...
I'll leave you with this sweet needlepoint that I found at a garage sale. A little old man was having a sale at his home. I asked him who did the needlepoint and he said his wife did it. It was beautiful! He said, "My wife left me..." I looked at him sadly and said, "Oh, I'm so sorry!" He said, " oh, it's okay, my wife left me to go be with Jesus, and I want someone else to enjoy some of these beautiful things." So I bought it. And had to leave quickly so I wouldn't cry. If you like it, you have my permission to borrow it.
Keep your dress down.

Oh Vickie...everything you wrote just makes me want to sit and bawl!!! Your mother-in-law is truly a miracle to behold. The big rats, uh, I'm terrified of those critters. I'm a magnet girl, so I love those! But that garage sale story is incredible. Such a beautiful story.

Your post today touches my heart. My mom passed away a few years ago, and ever since, my dad has gone down hill. They had a very special love for one another. Now my dad has alzheimers and it is sad to see him not remembering things. It's kinda like he is lost in his own world. You were very sweet to buy this and I know he feels great in knowing it has a special home.
Blessings.
What a wonderful post about your mil.
Prayers that she will heal from her surgery.
Great family photo.
Hugs
Now that would make a sweet little refrigerator magnet. So glad that Texas arrived in a timely fashion. Looks right at home on your fridge and I hope that you found that the magnet is strong, too.
I do believe that your hubby inherited his mama's sweet smile. She is a cutie. It makes me smile that she remembers the most important things. God love her and bless her real good!
Oh that critter?? Never heard of him before, but it does not surprise me that he lives in Texas.
A nutria. Wow, I never heard of him either. Does look like a beaver though. Mmmmm, he looks like he might defend his territory too. Good thing you were at a distance.
You were, weren't you???? ,-)

I was already touched by this post, but when I read about the needle point....well, that just about turned the faucets on for me. Very, very sweet.
Your stories sure pull on the heartstrings. Wow, never saw a nutria before, but what an awesome creature! Good subject for a wildlife painting. My farm is sold and I am moving in 2 weeks!
Chickie, nutria and beavers look so similar, although I've never seen a nutria. Rick said they do. He said they don't have the big paddle tail like beavers and that alligators love them, so be watchful of the food chain.
Your mil is lovely. I know the emotions of having a parent in the nursing home and how much you miss her (same with my dad) - very hard. God bless her. Part of our grieving process began while Dad was in the nursing home. Bittersweet times.
I love you, dear. TTYL. XO
awww - sweet posting from Sand Flat Farm - yep the needlepoint just got me gal! He'll see her again and we'll get to hear the story of when she made that lovely piece! Bless your sweet MIL - my Dad had Alzheimer's and he was affectionately called Sweet Old Bob or S.O.B.(yes the letters and it was a big joke with his nurses since Daddy never cussed!)Thank you for sharing with us today - I'm LOVING my fun stuff from winning your "who were we" contest -
Loving stories today about your mom-in-law and the needlepoint. Old stuff that comes with a story makes it so special.
That critter though, well, as a city kid, I don't need to worry about seeing one. A peaceful scene.
I think it looks like you captured a river otter on film, I have seen Nutrias and they usually look more like very big rats... You captured a pretty cute critter there.
I would like to think should I acquire Alzheimers' I would be as sweet as your Mother-in-law,or Dolores' husband David. To be in a fog mentally and still tell people you love them and be able to sing hymns & remember the Bible would be the best way to be.
We have a friend who's mother had Alzheimers' and although she forgot pretty much everything, her family, even how to sleep, she would pipe right in when we sang hymns, read the Bible, and of course, never failed to ask for her cookies.
Sweet random thoughts Vickie.
BTW, I just watched a hunting show where the guys were taking target practice and guess what their targets were ? Black cut-outs of GROUNDHOGS !
I'm so glad your mother-in-law is still sweet and lovely. My poor dear sainted Grandmother turned horrible and mean, it was the saddest thing. Horrible really.

What a heart grabbing post. Your mother in-law appears to be a sweet, lovely lady who has a wonderful, supportive family. Blessings to you all. As for those giant rats, please keep them in your neck of the woods! What a wonderful needlepoint sampler, God bless the gentlemen you purchased it from. Hugs, Julie.
You can see your MILs true spirit in just her photo. What a wonderful person to have in your life. You had me there... and then the needlepoint story. Such beautiful love stories all around. Thank you, Vickie. blessings ~ tanna
Well, I don't know how you got out of there with that needlepoint without crying, Vickie~ I would have stood there bawling my eyes out! It is very beautiful and it also has a beautiful story behind it.
I'm sure your MIL is a very special lady... I know it has to be so sad to not be able to sit down and have a chat with her.
Congrats on your win, dearie~ and that is a neat photo of that critter!
What a sweet smile your mother in law has! You can see her sweet spirit in her eyes! Is that a beaver or otter?? I did not know these critters live in Texas?? I want one in my pond! The little needlepoint piece is lovely and the story made me teary eyed!
